A town in KY. has passed a new ordinance that you can no longer tie your dog to a tree or stake it out .Must be on a leash when out side or in a pin but cannot be out if it is severe weather of any type
rain ,snow, etc. Seems a little overboard to me. What do you all think?

I think it’s a shame that they have to pass a law to “make” people take care of their pets. What’s worse is some of these people also have children.

Most city ordinance are made up by fat/bored housewives (and a few so called men) with no life or hobbies. This is their way to feel good about themselves. Often times these ordinances are made out of "emotions" with little regard for facts or knowledge of said subject.

Well you asked.

It was written by the woman that runs the locale human society . I should have also stated the dog can't be tied out on a nice day or any day.

So you agree with tying an animal up and leaving it there with no shelter?

I don't think shelter was ever mentioned...no one should agree with that. I have 2 dogs tied up, and I hate it, but they both have a house, they won't stay home, so unfortunately that's the way it has to be.

No read what I wrote . You can't even tie it to a dog house or garage or anything. Can't be tied out.

I had beagle for rabbit hunting. How are you going to keep there feet is shape on carpet. He had a house and staked out under a large oak tree. He was all four seasons. What they need to do is control CATS. The #1 killer of wildlife.

Once someone proposes these laws, everybody has to vote for them. If you don't, in the next election, your opponent will say "He voted to keep dogs out in the freezing rain." Same with any stupid, misguided law written to protect children. "My opponent voted to strap children to the tops of cars and drive 100 miles per hour in a hurricane." If somebody proposed a law to make it illegal to speed through hurricanes with children strapped to the roof, every politician would vote for it.

Apparently the dogs have a better union and benefit program than I did when I was working ... job kept me tethered outside in all kinds of weather ... rain, snow, 100+ heat indexes and sub-zero temperatures not to mention wind chills.

Has nothing to do with shelter or not, a lot of people keep their dogs inside and let them out on a chain to do their business then back in when they are ready which might be soon or later depending on weather and what’s happening, and that would be illegal under that stupid law as written

By the way that’s How I do it, my dog lives inside with me but gos out on a chain when she has to go, then is let back in when she wants, if I let her out without being tied up she would vanish and take herself hunting, I also take her for a long walk in the afternoon, and I bet there are a very large number of people that do it the same way

Frankly it's none of my business how others keep their livestock. You know kind of like how its nobody's business how you trap.

Agreed. I drove the alleys for a living for 21 years and called many people in for neglecting their dogs.

My Beagle liked being tied out.

I ran some 3/16th snare cable from the house down to the tractor shed and had a slider on it. Usually had to call her to come back in, unless it was raining. lol
