Any thoughts on this subject? Are there many states getting involved in this? Do most folks just as soon not get involved in it?

Personally,I'd like to see states get involved in it.The states should have been heavily involved when it first started in late '80's.As big as this became in that time period,It disappeared from our screen as fast as it appeared.

If I remember right they didn't address drowning type sets because They deemed them to be in humane.
Once the government gets involved In your business things may not end up In your favor.

I think the states were and are the prime movers, through the Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies https://www.fishwildlife.org//afwa-inspires/furbearer-managementNow as far as needing more of this, it's all been covered. Traps were tested and methods established and until we get new species there isn't any thing new to test.

Imo the states should have been proactive on this long ago. New Mexico lost by one vote, could they have won if they would have been more proactive. I don't know maybe they were and it still didn't work?
This should be a wake up call for all of us. With this new administration they now feel like they can get anything they want. Look at all the red states turning blue.
Ya beav i agree about the government getting involved, but this stuff is coming whether we want it or not. Or we could keep fighting until we lose. The bmp stuff ain't perfect but at least we can negotiate before we just lose it.

RpMartin I get what your saying. But it sounds like wishful thinking its like compromising on gun control. Incremental until its banned completely.

Agreed. There's going to be things I wouldn't want,or like, but like it or not, trapping is political and your not going to go around that. We're not going to get everything we like. For example,if it was recommended that only padded jaws or laminated jaws with a min.of 1/4" offset would be legal for coyote, and the state declared that or nothing to be legal, would you adapt and be legal?Or would you quit?Id adapt and keep trapping.

Incremental until its banned completely. this ^^^ Why wait for the antis to restrict yourself out of business when trappers can do it to themselves easier? Most of the clubbies see restrictions as saving trapping while they may be slowly killing it. BMP's were just a scheme to combat the EU fur ban. Neither are relevant anymore. Don't run with them like they mean anything anymore.

Almost no one likes changes especially when we don't want to. We have to live with change on an almost daily basis whether its at work, at home and especially the government. If we don't keep up you get left behind. If you refused to change with the safety rules at work where would you be? That's just one instance.

Animals are the same, traps are the same, what has changed that we need to go along with? More anti trappers. I'm not willing to go along with them. Your analogy isn't comparing apples to apples. They aren't instituting new safety regulations at work on machines that been working perfectly for a hundred+ years,,, unless they are being intimidated or regulated by outside forces.

To me BMP's are feel good thing. It is typical "scientific" research, that was flawed before it started. I use the trap that I feel works the best for my situation. I don't need anyone telling me what work in my conditions, when they don't know what they are.

I know what works good for me too, but a lot of people don't have a clue. Imo i think at minimum the trap companies should take it upon themselves to make sure they do not sell traps with sharp edges. Also i feel they should send instructions with every box of traps on the possible dangers of 4 coiling with out lamination on land trapping, water trapping is different.
Just like at work, everything is fine until someone gets hurt. Then they have to put a new guard on to prevent more injuries. Same for trapping.
