Found this glass jar in the woods today, it’s about a gallon and has screw lids on both ends. The banding strap has a 90 degree rod attached. The end that looks like a mason lid has a small slide lever. Any ideas on what it is and what it might have been used for?

I'll give this bump. I am interested to hear what that could possibly be used for.

My first guess would be a crayfish trap.

It’s what you put the pig nuts in after you castrate them.

May God bless you and give you tight chains

I see purple jars and boxes similar to that hanging in trees around here on occasion. They are used to monitor Emerald ash bores.

I believe it would pre-date the arrival of the Emerald Ash Borer... local rumor is there was a still in my woods back in the day and it was seated in some broken blue Ball Jars and an old barrel stove but also could be a farmstead dump site.

Looks like it could be some type of fish trap. I have seen gallon glass minnow traps.

Those are good clues. Based on that I'd guess something to do with distilling alcohol.

Eh...wot?

That blue bucket was supposed to be lucky set bucket. Purple jars are lucky bait containers.

All I can find with 2 ends are bug sprayers or dusters. Little more looking there might find it.

For whatever reason it looks as if it's a air filter for a small tractor , possibly a oil bath of sorts ?
