I had two (out of 6) dogs that would eat coon fat...and throw up immediately afterwards. None would touch the meat. Good luck with that.

Back in the day, my Dad rendered coon fat to put on our work shoes and boots. In the winter time when they got wet, we would take them off and set them under the old wood stove in the living room to dry out. We only had wood stoves to heat and cook with at the time.
When they started warming up they would stink so bad it would gag a maggot. Smelled just like a wet coon.
I almost threw up just reading this thread..

I've cooked and eaten coon and thought it tasted good. The amount of parasites I see in coons grosses me out some. I should make better use of it and eat it more.

rendered fat is not the same as raw fat. fish oil, bto, skunk oil for example. you never hear about coon fat being used that way. i never rendered any. i been told by a guy i believe, that dogs will gobble up cooked coon carcasses.

Yeah I saw this post and remember old books saying bear lard is the best pastery lard but...ew. Let us know how it goes.

Crows won't even the dead coon on the highway, same with possums.

had coon killing chickens last summer set 4 live traps with nothing but coon cracklins for bait caught 22 coon and 7 possom in a little over a week i think you guys would be amassed if you tried it instead of talking about something you know nothing about there is hardly any smell to the lard
