Great day yesterday here in the swamps of south Ga....

Thanks to some quick manevering by ClayC and I yesterday......three longbeards came in...killed the first longbeard that cleared the brush. One stood there and other flew off into creek bottom. Decided not to shoot another gobbler as Ga's season goes to May 15th. Gobbler that flew away suddenly came aggressively running back when bird I shot began flopping. Couldnt help myself...lol. Exciting!!!!!!

Clay had a great weekend too, but I'll let him tell those stories and post pics if he decides too.

Enjoyed hunting with you again. Hope we hear many more gobbles!!!!

Hey Patrick, post those pictures for me please. Never done it before and I’d struggle figuring out how! Lol
Another great trip to almost Florida! 12 years straight making that 1000 mile journey to chase them swamp gobblers. Been worth every mile!
Saturday (Opening day) was cool, cloudy, and windy. Got on some birds gobbling on the roost and called 4 longbeards in my lap. I killed 1 and could have doubled easily, but I let the others walk off. Called another one up that afternoon at 2:30 in a clover patch that the landowner appropriately calls the gobbler field!
Sunday it rained all day and the wind blew terrible. I stayed in the woods all day, but spent several hours calling from deer blinds during the worst of the rain. I saw 2 hens all day long. Never heard a gobble all day until I was walking out after fly up I got one to gobble from his roost. Got him pinpointed good and killed him Monday morning at 8:20. I hustled back and got with Patrick and we went to the woods and called the 3 in that he described.
Action packed hunt again!
Thanks for the hunt buddy, and especially thank Michelle for the awesome meals! That woman can flat cook!

Good deal. It may just be the lighting but the bodies look darker than ours?

Congrats!! Nothing like it! Our birds are with hens, but if ones coming he’ll have a buddy or two. Had to run one off mine after the shot, then had 3 more gobble when I yelled at him, lol! Gotta love a Georgia Spring!

Nice birds, what species are they, easterns. The feathers at the base of tail fan look different on both birds might be the light or the way you are holding them.

They are an Osceola/Eastern hybrid. The 2 Patrick is holding were killed 3 miles from the Florida line.
Some have strong Osceola characteristics, some look like an eastern. All are darker and slightly longer legged than a typical eastern. Smaller bodied on average than purebred easterns.
Lots of challenges to hunting in those River swamps. The skeeters were incredibly thick this year. You didn’t dare go in the woods without a thermacell. First year I never saw a cottonmouth. Too cool I reckon.

That first one was a 2 year old gobbler. 3/4” Spurs. But he had the best beard.
I’m a spur guy lol.
The other two were 3 and 4 year olds.

Hybrid turkey are common many places. I think the majority of the turkey in Nebraska are some combination of hybrid.
