Set 21 double floats and two 220s today, things are just thawing here, got a little rain today with some more in the forecast, the water is rising today. I’ll try to take a few photos each day, seen a few rats today while I was setting, quite a number of bald eagles , immature and adults.

Started day out spilling lava java on my arm in truck, made .45 cents on cans from boat launch, someone likes twisted tea, had a good first check, water is still rising, set 10 more double floats today. Lot of stuff floating today, one big one snagged in middle .

Water was crazy high today,13 on a two day soak. To quote my future son in- law you gotta love a good struggle .get ready Walleyed the water is on Its way.

Had a nice check today 19 and on a 2 day soak, going to have to work a little later tonight, neighbor kid has been bringing beaver , fleshed three of them before my check today, kinda was hoping wind would die down.

Had a great day, 11 rats today, everything is fresh baited and floating, warm and rainy the rest of today and then we have some snow coming in late tonight and tomorrow, check again Friday.

Are those baits apple or parsnips or something altogether different?
In the spring do you like a muskrat gland type lure or a food lure for floats?

The photos of the fleshed rats don't show any scars or bite marks. Is that what you are seeing too? Nice to have good spring rats not all bit up. Population must be in a good but healthy and stable place.

Mac, I like parsnips they stay white for a while, like to change bait every two days,the lure I use says it has rat glands in it, my dad used to rub glands on the boards, he said that’ll get em going.
Bryce, there are bites , I would call about 10% damaged, some others have some damage but it is expected in spring.



Worked in shop today, cleared stretchers, cleaned up some casters and oil glands, skun fleshed and stretched yesterday’s catch.

Had a good check, caught 11 today but mink or bird got one, first time I ever caught one by the head, one float has caught three doubles in a row, wind was cold today.

I know nothing about float trapping, but if you have a spot that has caught 3 doubles, why wouldn't you being another float or two and catch like 6 at once?

Carolina, I have tried that, and sometimes it's just more hassle than it's worth.

Had nice check with my sister 3 rats,1 beaver in 220 that I just returned to service yesterday. My sister is a quick study, i this we were at the seventh float and snap, caught her fingers in #1 longspring . Water is going down will take tomorrow off and check Monday.

Worked in shop today, fleshed and stretched a beaver for my friend, put up yesterday’s rats, and skun yesterday’s beaver, listened to old country radio, and sipped coffee, had a pork roast for dinner. Life is good.check day tomorrow.

Long day, my buddy Wyatt Erpp checked with me today, we caught 6 rats and one more small beaver, then back to shop to skin feet and flesh otter, flesh small beaver and couple beaver tails for the tanning pickle.cleaned a couple sets of castors and took a few rats off boards, Wyatt skun today’s beaver and the one he caught today, skun fleshed and stretched today’s rats, and fleshed Wyatt’s beaver. Stretch a beaver in morning and then pull half the line tomorrow.

I’m fortunate to be in the position not to have to put a dollar value on everything I do.Just glad I was able to do it,Thanks for riding along, sale day Saturday.

Not terrible,$616.20 , I no saled the rat glands , I had 1/2 pint they offered $10. Was hoping to have some $6 rats but $5.80 was my highest. A little gas money.

You lived life the way you wanted for two weeks and included family & friends and made memories and $600. Sometimes we don't think about how blessed we are. Thanks for the ride along.

Nice Bison, how does your setup work, just two traps, any bait or lure?

Just 2 traps on that one. Usually put a little lure on, but a little mud works just as good. In the spring here they will climb on anything!

Sold my rat glands to a fellow t- man member,add $25 to my total. Bison I will have to try the mud trick next spring.

With the glands I averaged $5.25, the glands added .32 per rat.

That's a pretty good average considering the current fur climate. Hope you have plenty of rats next year year, I'm getting a little worried about the dry weather up here. Finished with a hair over 900 but I Didn't average $5.00!
