Been hearing a few tom's here at home and started getting my calls tuned up and ready. Going to use my moms old JC Higgins mod 20 12ga pump this year. I made up a 2 3/4 1 3/8 oz load of nickle plated #6 that pattern excellent at 35 yards with the full choke tube. Hopefully the weather will cooperate I'll get to work a few birds.
Good luck to everyone this season

Can’t get here fast enough.

I keep desperately hoping that one day someone will call me "Sir" without adding "please calm down" or "you're causing a scene."

I am. I never really had the "Turkey Bug" until this year. While out trapping and running my rabbit dogs I picked up some turtle shells and made slate pot calls out of them. I am excited to call in a tom with one. I had some strikers made to go with calls.
I made 4, kept 2 and gave the others to land owners who let me run my dogs and trap. WV law allows me to possess the turtle shells but it is illegal to sell them.

Tags all lined up just working out the details with the other guys, seasons and blending it all together is a pain on who can do what and when.

I had them gobbling in my back yard yesterday.
With all the good weather they are going nuts.

Always ready. Birds are starting to move out of the creek bottoms and into their spring ranges. Heard a few hens last weekend while I was clearing trails and dropping some dead trees. Still over a month away here. Will be here fast.

That's a cool idea for a call. Where do you get the slate?

Nice looking gobbler! Didn’t realize Texas opened this early. I may head out there in a few weeks. Checking on some dates now.

That's a cool idea for a call. Where do you get the slate?

There are a few places online. I got mine from

https://www.brooksidegamecalls.com/slate.aspx

I found the Vermont Premium Slate does not work well in the shell.

Great photos guys I had a picture of 9 hens and 3 toms on my trail cam last week right in front of my Mom in laws pop up blind. She's 77 years old and is fired up ready to go. She has killed a bunch of turkey's through the years,.Use's a single shot 20 ga 2 3/4 inch 1 oz of #6 shot that I load for her. its either a old savage or revelation. She does all her own calling with a lynch box call
