Anyone have a recommendation on hog ring or clip pliers?

I have a ton of cages and colony traps I need to repair and may even make a few cages while I’m at it. Some of the outfits on the internet look cheap or can only clip one clip at a time (which isn’t a showstopper for me but it would be nice to be able to have a semi-auto.”)

I’m also interested in the length of ring or clip I would need for standard rat wire.

Any trap makers out there have good advice? PM me or post on here.

Thanks a bunch!

John

Kluberstanz has a great selection of cage making supplies.

X 3 on Klubertanz. If don't have a bunch to do our tractor supply carries the J clips and pliers. Klubertanz has the pneumatic but they aren't cheap.

Most any farm supply store will have cage clips and pliers in stock.

X4!

Klubertanz has much better quality products. They will deliver to free to any local rabbit shows they are attending, which can save you a large amount of money on shipping.

Ohio State University spent $4600.00 on wire from Klubertanz that they put in one of my barns, in exchange for pigeon eggs they needed for research.

Buy good pliers.
-green hog rings
-Blue and red j clip pliers. Red is better. Spring loaded( piece of wire) in the handles saves your hands after putting on a ton of clips

Hog ring clips and j clips. I put a dime on there so you figure out the size. I think they are standard size

Round colony’s work the best. Put a gate on the funnel or you will lose rats. Also you will notice the brown on the gate holder. It’s there for a reason. Mark’s the top of the trap
[Linked Image]
When you set your colony’s in a culvert or run you can see the top of your trap in the water and know it’s in the right position
[Linked Image]
You can make a mesh bender for square colony’s. One minute and you can bend a square colony. Even a retired marine could make one.......lol. Then you can make a wide low water trap
[Linked Image]
Four styles I make and use. Haven’t set for a couple years cause our muskrats disappeared for the last couple years
[Linked Image]

Get a few like this
[Linked Image]
Hang them to dry while your driving around checking traps [Linked Image]

Pile them up

If I remember correctly you should have some of my funnels. Time to put them to work. If you have some questions call or text me. I’m still waiting on some coyote pictures.............get busy doing what you deserve to be doing!

Lol sorry my bad. Is this better

As for Walleyed he’s busy catching muskrats and can’t use colony’s anyways.

I use these for j-clips. way better than those cheap flat steel ones... j-clip pliers

I like to make the nesting colony traps. They take up less room in the truck, well once you empty out the rats..

Strombergs catalog has cage making tools and supplies. That is where I usually bought my supplies. Cage weld-wire was purchased locally.

Hoot buddy has a air crimper for the long seams it’s the ticket if you do a lot of cage making it grabs both wire ends then pulls them into a clip that surrounds both together even the HD 12.5 size wire.
