There is nothing Michigan has to trap that anyone probably wouldn't be able to trap at home.....non-residents are not allowed to trap Marten, Fisher, Otter or Bobcat here. Everything else is pretty ho hum. Maybe wolf if they let us trap them, but chances are the DNR won't allow out-of-staters to trap them.

J Morris, we can trap all the bobcats and otter we want here. We don't have fisher or martin but no biggie. What we don't have that you do is muskrats. Maybe it would just be an chance to do something like that un restricted. I don't know about Tn. but here a non resident can do anything we do. By the way this isn't blasting just making what could be a suggestion for how it could work out for both parties. I hear about lotteries and limits but most of the southern states don't have those.

That would be a great idea but the Peoples Republuc of MN doesn't allow nonresidents to trap anything here or I might take you up on that offer. Over 70 years it's been this way and I think it's time for a change.

20 Scout maybe the trade off doesn't have to be trapping. I hear you folks have some good walleye fishing and might be a neat experience to ride along in the snow and ice or under ice. All I'm saying is as outdoorsmen and women we have a shared interest. Don't count yourself out of a possible life enriching experience not to mention meeting what could become a lifelong friend. We all have something unique to off that others may not. I got to spend a few days with another trapper doing inshore salt water fishing which he had never experienced. It was definitely a highlite for us both and I know for me a great memory.

Most of the (out of state) trips I trapped on, were invites from other trappers who lived and trapped in that area. They had permission, often behind a locked gate, often enough traps to set 10 times over what land they had sewn up. Most of the time, already scouted. All I had to do was show up with some personal gear. Some were pretty good trappers, some just a few seasons behind them and the willingness to learn new things. It's nice to show up at someone's door, have a place to stay, cooked meals at the end of the day, lots of land to trap with beaver, otter, bobcat, coyote, etc. and be treated, for the most part, 'like a King'. In my book, that's the way to go. I never cared as much for all the fur we caught as I did the enjoyment of being a field with a fellow trapper. Made a lot of good friends and a lot of good memories, some still exist to this day. I still have trappers come up and run with me, as I appreciate the help on the line and at the end of the day.

I agree but as a result of this silly law, until this is changed I am not able to trap in other states that I would love to trap in. I have ton's of offers to trap coyotes for bounty in other states but can't even do that. I can't blame the other states for having this kind of attitude but I think change is long over due.

I never thought about folks not having Muskrats, but I always wanted to trap a Ringtail and a Spotted Skunk, both animals a lot of trappers in certain areas would hardly call rare or "out of the ordinary".

I wouldnt care if I trapped or not.It would be just as much fun running with a trapper from some exotic location and hang out with them while they run their lines.Maybe help with their chores at camp etc.

I imagine it would be as close as a man can get these days, of stepping back in time.
I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

A trapper on a registered line can employ as many licenced helpers as he wants-just have to be Canadian. No problem having someone unlicenced along on the line. They could get a non resident small game hunting licence.
