Good grief! No thread on the Klamath Falls OTC sale?

I checked in fur this morning but then high-tailed it home lest they put me to work shagging fur tonight.

Must been upwards of 4-500 beaver and unfortunately waaaaayyyyyy too many otter for what our little sale will handle. Hope I'm wrong. (112 of them beaver mine).

I saw one box of tanned Alaskan otter on the tanned fur table that must have been around 25-30 pelts. Lots of raw otter too plus other tanned otters. I'm thinking that everybody that had otter last year that couldn't market them decided to get them tanned and send them to K. Falls.

I had been hoping for a $15 avg on beaver (just saying that makes me feel a little pukey in the throat) but I'm guessing less now. One of the buyers that was active in Redmond reportedly got all he wanted there. I'm thinking most of the other buyers will bid extra low knowing that.

Such is life of the fur trapper.

BTW, when I took that pic there was still lots of fur to be put out. Mine was still in my pick up at that point and tables were still being set out.

Not lots of coyotes and cats at this sale like normal. Guessing that a lot of the eastern Oregon boys might have gone to Idaho? I had thought that maybe with Fallon not working out this year that there would be more of those kinds of good here.

I think that lately the coyote/cat guys have figured out that mid-season selling is where the better money is. Idaho has been rocking this year from what I read.

Well, for me the results were not what I had wished for. Buyers must have spent all their money in Idaho.

Bright spot was castor, as expected. I sold a little over 10 lbs at $85. Did just over $5 on four nutria and I ended up selling for less than my asking price all of my beaver at $9.70 avg. Of which about 80% were XL and larger. About half would have been hatters in todays market, but the other half were good #2's and better.

My otter average was the lowest in over a decade. $46.50 avg.

Offers on tanned fur were just barely over tanning costs. I sold a little bit but am took the rest back as I can do better.
I will be interested to see how the cat and coyote guys did.

I had some items on this sale. Raw andbtanned pelts that are perfect for the craft/tourist market. I’ve usually done quite well on this type item in the past. I was very disappointed. Most of the fur iWill be coming back to Idaho. (

I know at least one craft buyer that wasn’t there. He was t able to do any shows last year because of covid, so he said he had plenty of inventory. His shows most likely will be open this year. He said he would be back next year if he needs inventory.

OTC has had a rough 12 months. Last March Klamath was cancelled. Then covid restrictions this year. Hopefully things will be back on track for them next season.

I think the tanned fur table was stocked with more goods than I have seen for a sale in quite a long time. I could tell it was going to rough on those of us offering up tanned goods yesterday.

I'm sorry to hear of the semi-bummer sale.

Beaverpeeler you are probably the last of the breed up there, given that your state is run by unicorn riders and wannabe totalitarians. I'm just hoping you stay out of jail, I'm sure your ruling crew will come up with some sort of felony you're guilty of in the near-term future...

So far we have managed to keep our trapping here where states all around us have fallen victim. But thanks for the sympathies. Sometimes dealing with all the anti trapping attacks feels like being pecked to death by a flock of ducks. But we're still alive so far.

I live about 14 miles out of Eugene. The 2nd largest city in Oregon...so yes, right in the southern end of the valley.

I sent mine to the tannery. I wonder about getting something made for the wife if I can not sell them for tannery cost + shipping. Maybe even see about getting some otters if they are going that cheap. Ideas around here for a furrier?

It your Nutes would be worth half or less then the ones here. Sh
Southern Nutes are not close to western Oregons in quality.

Ted, I was going to point out the same thing myself but figured those southerners have suffered enough. Let 'em dream.

I use to send all my nutes out there, was the only place i could sell them. They usually averaged whatever nutria were averaging out there, guess they got mixed in with the better liberal quality mudrats when they got sold, lol.

Back in the day when Jtrapper was shipping his southern nutria to OTC, I’m quite it was Goldberg that was buying most the nutria. He seemed to have a corner on the market and bought so many western nutria that he was able to slide the southern nutria into the collection with no problem.

I think it was a case where he needed “x” number of nutria to fill the order, so every nose counted. As yes, the good old days.

Thats the type of thing that wrecks the manufacturers confidence in the wild fur collection.

It may have wrecked the confidence of the manufacturer back in the old days, when fur was high fashion and sold in garment size bundles.

Now a days, it has come to be expected. Many buyers, especially the Chinese, want quantity rather than quality. Look at the lot size in a FHA catalog, especially on raccoon, beaver, muskrats. You just know the grade isn’t as clean as it was 25-30 years ago.
