I'm not a taxidermy expert but I've paid a fair amount to have quite a bit of work done. I'd feel good about handing over my money for that work. Very nice.

Nice work, I cant beleive you didn't point the ears up at attention, but it is still a nice bit of work.

Whether it's your euro mounts, skull cleaning, deer mounts , or this wolf it's obvious you take pride in what you do. Good job.

Very nice I do like the eye work you can come down to my shop in Virginia and play around for a while so I can get caught up. I don't have any wolf's to mount but I do have a few black coyotes and a hole lot of other things.

No matter where you go there you are.

Just my opinion but..........I think the ear positioning is perfect. Having seen a couple of these guys in the wild, I believe that they are almost always in a state of caution............and thus the ears may be in a somewhat 'flattened' configuration.

Yell at your dog or wife and watch what the ears do.

JP, wonderful art you have done. You make them come alive again.

And I agree, the ears are just right. When they are not focused in lock in mode on a specific target, they are on neutral mode and the ears are kept at an angle to catch surround sound and locate what they hear immediately. There are lots of good mount with ears in lock in mode, to see one that is not the norm is refreshing.

Thanks bandy! I absolutely would be all over that if I didn’t have 7 kids and #8 on the way!

Thank you Sharon!!

Thanks White!

I made sure I didn’t put the ears on top of the head for this mount. I didn’t want to give it the “2 big triangles floating on top of the head” look.
I think if you don’t set the ears properly in that position then there goes the mount.

So I set them down a bit further. And also looked at pictures of live wolves to make sure it was still anatomically correct.

Another thing is this Wolf had very poor fur. Only thing worth keeping was what you see. Even the guard hairs on the neck are very thin on the sides, so if I had those ears on the top there wasn’t much fur to help blend them in.

Here’s a pic of the Wolf when I caught it. Fur was only about 1 1/2” long.

Here’s a pic of a Wolf I found on the internet. This wolf has the ears pointed up. Also has awesome fur to blend them in.

I feel if the ears were mounted pointed up on my mount it would have looked a bit goofy. Maybe would have looked more coyote than it already does.

Anyways, that’s just a little bit of insight that went through my head during the mounting process.

Thanks again to everyone for the nice comments!

JP, was that a November wolf ??

Couldn't agree with you more about the ears !! When they are pointed up it makes the face look skinny...............even if Lefty likes it laugh

I have to admit, that looks pretty good. A lot better than what I was imagining and a heck of a lot better than your selfies!
To be honest, I’d put that on the wall.
