I don’t know if I have the right term or not but I’ve used a Silica type gel applied to roots of trees at the time of transplanting. The tiny sand sized grains absorb water and make it available to the roots during dry conditions.

My question is this...has anyone ever used this type of product in lure formulation? My thought is that it would absorb the lure and prolong the smell when applied at a set. Also might work as a thickener.

Thoughts?

Terra-Sorb - https://www.forestry-suppliers.com/Search.php?stext=terra-sorb

I use it as a thickener in some lures.

Thank you, Paul. That’s the stuff I was talking about.

I bought mine at Home Depot but other garden centers probably have it.

There are a few water absorption materials that are offered currently. Some in powder ,crystal or granular form. Most will only be effective in absorbing water based fluids.

Oil based content materials will need a more specific product that will do just that.

Some of the water absorption products will give you a candy gel snot looking final product while others will be completely absorbed and can stabilize and thicken a product at the same time.

While we are on the subject, I mentioned carbo-wax awhile ago and stated that you use to use it. I'm assuming you don't any more and I was wondering why as what little I've used it for it worked great and seems to bond and thicken oil bases and water bases even within same formulation. Also doesn't seem to dry up or seal over.

I use terra sorb In urine. It turns It Into a slurry and doesn't evaporate as fast. The fine stuff works better then the granular kind.

Thank you for all the responses. I appreciate it.

I’m not sure of the exact brand but I’ve got some left that I used on tree transplants and will try it one some of my lure concoctions.

If you’re asking me, I do not know. The stuff I’ve got didn’t come with a label. I got it in bulk from the tree nursery. I’m using it in a gland lure so I don’t think it’s a risk of anything eating it.
