Thank you to all that served over there. Have family and friends that didn't receive the welcome home they deserved for all they went through over there. All of you have my greatest respect.

Bryce on my first chopper ride the machine gunner said your not going to wear that flak jacket are you? I said sure. Then he said which way do the rounds come from? Okay learned quickly plus put on as chopper got close to ground.

Lee, I am at loss for enough words every time I think of that horrible reception.

That whole fiasco would enrage my father so much , I could hear him grinding his teeth across the room. Sometimes he would begin to say how he felt, then go silent and stare into space ...I believe he held back because of times that I was present. He never tolerated anyone who shot off negative in any way about VN vets. Not even from relatives. He wouldn't even allow anyone in his house that were of that attitude. He endured way too much in his service as fighter pilot and gunner, and was one of few who surely understood his VN mates , as the brothers to him that they were.

Every time I read or hear of that horrible time, I come to tears ...from a variety of intense reasons.

If we would have been near anyone and witnessed them treat a VN vet like that, we both would have ended up arrested for serious assault.

Miss Sharon my uncle was spit on as he was walking through the airport by some piece of crap hippie punk when he returned. He dropped the guy with one punch. A police officer saw the whole thing and just smiled as he walked by. He was a better man than me. I wouldn't of stopped with one punch!

Yes, and police know all too well what that is like , every time they get an obstinate person hooked up who spits on them .

By law, THAT is assault and battery too, and they get trussed up with a bag over their head in transport, with added charges on them for assault and battery on a police officer.

Whatever disease and bacteria in those sleazy individuals is as dangerous and considered by law as a weapon. So that officer had added reason to smile at your uncle and let it go, as he should have.

If every obtuse individual who acts that way , to anyone, would end up on the ground with some missing teeth, they would be instantly trained and never do it again. I think of this every time I would see videos of worthless examples of humans spitting on officers in those BLM riots. That also needed to happen to those who disrespected all our veterans back then.

My dad was strategic air command in Germany and Oregon, New York and Florida during the 60 and in Missouri during the 70s. He didn't get sent over seas . My step dad was a gunner on a chinook over there, I just called and chatted with him because of this post . We just found out last year that he was awarded a bronze star with V for a evac he was part of. He still won't talk about his time over there all he will say is " you do what you had to for your brothers"

I've had the pleasure of working with several Vietnam vets and can't say I've found one I didn't like. Y'all definitely have my respect.

Dad was in the big red one in Saigon in '66-'67. he was teaching me bushcraft learned in country at a young age. I joined the green machine in 89 and many of my cadre were nam vets, they shared SO MANY things they learned the hard way over there. many of which hold true no matter where you may be. awarness. always. The nam vets i grew up around were my hero's. i have had the chance to tell some of them, but many went on before i ever had the chance. dont wait. if someone had a positive influence on you growing up, tell them. Gods peace my brothers & sisters. 🇺🇸
