Drifter on here use to call it catching them on the installment plan, lol.
Snare enough you'll get one now and then by the tail, never have figured out how they do that, last one i caught by the tail went to a zoo who was wanting some.
CDR's i don't see many toes in traps.
Not my circus, not my clowns.

Ive never caught one by the tail in a foot trap. This one planted it with some authority because my pan tension was set for rat avoidance.

If you're getting toes its usually because of one of two things. Either your traps are weak, you're not offsetting your trap from center of approach enough, or both. Your trap pan should be offset 4 - 4 1/2" from center. If not, the beaver will have a large part of its foot on a jaw when the trap fires, giving you a bad hold. Guide sticks 13-14" apart, on each side of the trap, with the trap tight against the stick on one side, gives you the right offset and guides the beaver where you want it.

Having a full time job and now owning a large christmas tree farm is taking all my time. I'm going to catch 80 before I get too old though, just need to quit my other job. Maybe in a couple years.

Perhaps the biggest beaver I ever caught was snared by the tail

I love snaring. It's a great tool for beavers. It sure beats lugging heavy gear in and out of a high bank creak. In fact it is so simple I can snag some of the dumb ones.
It looks like you did that ol timer a favor

A couple years ago I think you posted a picture of the proper way to position a foothold, but I can't find that valuable picture now
