that is way i use a 12 inch piece of wire to wrap around the jaws(don't forget to cut it). I don't trust any safety and when set is finished or about to be placed deep. i snip the wire and move on. Had an ole timer show me that years ago.

I got reminded this morning why I don’t use Belisle traps. I was busy delining in the dark and a safety popped off the spring when I was letting it down. I had my thumb betwixt the jaws like right now! There was enough gap that it didn’t hurt too bad. I’ve been caught lots of times but it always gets your attention! Thank God it wasn’t a Belisle is all I have to say!

Hey out of curiosity, when you catch your thumb between the knuckles and it grows a lump like a 3rd knuckle, does that ever go away? Just wondering...

Your lucky I only got both hands when did it and a trapping partner to laugh at me.

Nope....hit my left hand ,right in the knuckles,with a mini sledge Hammah....I now have an extra knuckle.

In around 1994 I got 330'd on my right thumb between the main and middle knuckle while standing waist deep in the Mississippi. Got it off somehow and stuck my hand down into the ice water. Wound up with what feels like a bone chip that is still in there.
