Don't use steel #2 for coyote/fox.

As someone stated , OP says he doesn't hunt waterfowl .

So, that out the way, I found myself using steel a lot calling predators in situations where it was either a waterfowl hunt merging into a predator hunt or there were some restrictions ( shotgun only AND non-tox only) on public land .

Works really great on cats and raccoon , leaves a little bit to be desired on coyotes . Can be done , of course , just have to be much closer than I would normally give them when using lead .

We can always count on the chest beaters to show up whenever there's a shotgun load question. Doesn't matter how irrelevant, they find some way to make it about them and how "great" they are.

I've shot geese with #2's and I've shot ducks with BB's
If I'm trying to match the load for specific waterfowl, I prefer:
#2- #3 shot for Ducks
BB or T shot for geese

Not chest beating.Just a fact that if you cant kill geese with a magnum load of #2,,,then you must be sky busting or something.

Why is that? #2 for geese is more than enough. Overkills if you ask me. We don't use anything under #5 for geese.

I switched to Kent faststeel 3” #2’s for all waterfowl years ago. Really simplifies things. I’ve killed 100s of Geese with them. We hunt over decoys but they will still reach out and touch them when I need to. If your an exceptional shot like I am that is. whistle

What Tom said about finding what your gun likes is very true! My Pintail likes 2’s but if I switch guns I may have to switch loads.

Steel sucks! It slows down too quick, and to have knock down power at distance you need larger shot to retain energy. When I hunt with steel, I'm a fan of the 4 B's of waterfowling "Big Balls Break Bones!" I use #2 or BB's for ducks, and T's for geese. And I like to push it fast too when using steel. I much prefer HW-13 or TSS for waterfowl. It kills them with less cripples, meaning less follow up shots. For instance, hunting large geese in Northern IL this past December, the geese were hanging up at 70+ yards. The guide tried to get them to commit, but hey that's hunting. I'm shooting HW13 and TSS I started pass shooting geese at remarkable distances stone cold dead. Where the #2's and BB's were bouncing off the birds.

As for other animals, I can't count the number of yotes, coons, & beaver I've peeled out with steel shot just below the hide. I usually scrape it off, and reload it.

It's still bragging if you can do it. Makes you a braggart if it's not relevant to the topic. Prowess on the skeet field isn't relative to killing coyotes with steel shot.

It is relevent to the topic. If you suck at shooting,,,then the load doesn't matter at all.

I agree with upstate her even if maybe he was touting his skills a little. Even though the OP asked if it was a shell that could be used for Coyote when it was suggested that it was a waterfowl round he interjected that he might have to take it up. Someone else stating that it was more of a duck round than a goose round is pure hogwash. The idea that bigger is better is just not the case here. Whether it be shooting over decoys or pass-by shooting #2 shot vs 3,4,5,6 is not going to gain you effective distance or make a more lethal shot. In fact I would argue the opposite. With an inexperienced shooter I would want to opt for more bb's in the air rather than less and shorten the distance. Not because we are using a smaller shot size but success will go up for the novice shooter at shorter distances. Two years ago we had a first time waterfowler that we started out at 20-30 yard shots with the same #5 shot most were using. By the end of the season that girl was shooting at distance like the rest and dropping birds without issue.

All that being said at the price I would pick up every round
