I’m thinking prices might go up for a few species. I’m getting good high offers on my fur so maybe the buyers calling me know something that us trappers don’t.

The last stuff FHA sold for me was record low. Have to double that price before I'd even get interested.

Probably most PT too.

What I've noticed over the years is that most, but not all who ship will post pretty decent average the day of the sale with a side note.....but I still have xxx there that didn't sell.

Then about 6 months later those happy trappers are complaining about the price their leftovers sold PT for.
My prediction is Coonman will see some of those good averages on partial liter and be kicking his butt but in reality once all is said and done, he did just as well.

Hate to tell you this, but any averages below the reasonably profitable level are pretty much equally useless.

Define "profitable"

This will mean different things to different people. What do you think you need to make for your time? Min wage? Double min wage?

Are you trying to make a living from fur? If so, gonna take a lot more to be profitable as you likely have more invested. How much fuel, bait, lure do you use in $$?

Trapping for fun. Likely not as much invested. Not as many traps set. Less invested.

What does it take for you to not lose money trapping?

Ive never lost money as it relates to my investment...even in poor market years and southern fur. My time investment drops it down low when markwt is poor, but I still dont lose money.

I'm making at least $30 an hour on my alternative business. So, I guess, it would have to pay better than that. Subject to change.

$240/8 hr day. $1680/7 days.

Ive made that and more trapping down here with live market coyotes, good fur market, service fee all included, but I could not maintain that but a few weeks out of each year.

Who can?

Double that per week(before expenses) would be normal when marten were decent and other northern fur was reasonable on a mixed species line.
Couldnt do it currently.

Do it all season with a $6 rat and an average population. 2x plus with a big population or higher average.

Trappers are notoriously poor business men, watch them barter on YouTube for confirmation.

I tried to set up a buying account 2 months ago with FHA. It Took them for ever to reply and when they did they said they would get back to me ...... unbelievable. I had a buying account with NAFA for 30 plus years and bought fur about every other year up till a few years ago. I don’t know what’s going on With FHA but if you cannot even get a account opened to bid thats not good. I Ask them 2 months ago if I could bid off the phone or if they were going have a auction were we could watch on computer and bid that way , still no answer from them. Unbelievable.
Don’t know if I am wasting my time sending another email to the person that said we will get back to you or not.

That doesn't sound good for either buyer or seller...

It does not instill much confidence when they seem to be continuously overwhelmed with whatever is going on. I'm still hoping they can pull through.
