I have used voles in the past for coyote bait with good success. I currently have the opportunity to catch as many mice as possible in a friends currently empty hen house. Mouse turds everywhere.

There are several of these type traps on the market. What ones would you folks consider the best, easiest to use, etc.

I don't want to need to check more than once every two days.

IMO traps for mice ned to be checked at least once a day. Mice spoil easy and will eat each other. For a cheap trap, a 5 gal bucket with a little water and a ramp will work and is about as cheap as you can get.

5 Gallon pail with a freely spinning top on it smeared with peanut butter with a few inches of water in the bottom. Lean a board up to it and check every day.

Walmart sells a cheap, Tin Cat style knockoff trap, the Catchmaster, that works well baited or not, if placed along a wall. I have 42 of them and have caught several thousand mice in them.

Ive yet to see a mouse in a multicatch commercial trap. Not that I've ever seen them placed in places where a mouse would get caught

Empty slop bucket in the corner with a climbing pole. They'll jump right in.
Minnow trap along the edge of a building in the grass works good outdoors.

Best check daily as a minimum as they are cannibals. Saw a tin cat not checked for 2 days. There was 12 tails and 1 mouse alive.

there are a lot of video's on variations of the bucket trap some really cool ones with night vision camera footage of exactly how they approach and get caught

use a 5 gal. bucket ,put a soda can, with a wire thru the center of it to each side of bucket, put rv antifreeze in bucket . helps not having to check daily , put peanut butter on can , and a board so they can go up easy

Made one using a bump trigger.

Thanks guys. The bucket seems to be a favorite, Law Dog's little gallows looks pretty effective too.

But they sure are fun to put out, I might build some to sell at the local get togethers building them is 1/2 the fun.

Like the man says probably more fun to build than effective. Here is my variant from that principal:

In my experience, the effectiveness of a bucket trap depends largely on food availability. When the mice had plenty of food they wouldn't bother climbing the ramp, even for peanut butter. Farther away from the food source worked better. If the mice are hungry a bucket should work great. I'd use water rather than antifreeze of you're using them for bait.

I did not think the newer antifreeze would work. I know the old stuff worked.
