Thinking about getting one. Worth it or not? Any particular experiences on brands. Currently, favoring the Food Saver because of the warranty, if I get one.

They're definitely worth it. Big thing is how much you're going to use it. Occasion use, the foodsaver type work fine. Heavier use you might want to upgrade to a chamber vac. Yep!

I have had terrible luck with food savers working for more than two years or so. But they are pretty cheap, I guess that's why I haven't sprung yet for a better quality vacuum sealer.

I've had one for years well worth the money, use it on just about everything from deer to veggys. I also put all my trapping lures in a bag and seal them to store in my basement scent free over the summer. J

when your finding that package of lost ground venison on a freezer clean out in 2020 that you packed in 2016 an it is good almost like the day you packed it.
worth it for quality of meat
the food saver is the one I have I am on my second , I buy the off brand bags on amazon or ebay
fish, lasts longer but not more than a year , you can seal the fish in water , you just start the sealer and quickly turn off the vacuum and seal only like when you make the seals on the end of each bag
a chamber vac would be pure awesome , but at over 1K I will keep carrying on with the food saver one I have
food savers brand are not the top of the line by any means most are 40-70 dollars
I will probably go with a commercial 300-400 dollar unit on my next go round
it isn't too hard to overheat the food savers if you are packing 50+ pounds of meat

Foodsaver Two units bought cheap at sales.
If packing lager amounts I use both at same time. Alternate between the sealers as to allow the heat strip a cooldown period. Heat strip seems to be the weak link.

I use a folded up paper towel tucked inside the bag
fill bag with ground , folded clean paper towel wipe the sealing area inside the bag tuck the folded paper towel into the bag so that it goes from edge to edge , vac and seal , the paper towel slows down the juice enough it is sealed before it gets past.
get a good seal , a clean drip tray and it goes fast
when you open just toss the paper towel
I also make up abut 5 bags and roll the top out so that they stay open to fill , then above process.

I think these are the last set of bags I bough they are 11 inch wide and 50 feet long on each roll 100 feet for 16.99 making them 17 cents a foot a foot makes a good soze bag , they have an 8 inch size also https://www.amazon.com/Wevac-Weston...+seal+bags&qid=1617390740&sr=8-1the food saver branded bags 27.99 for three 16 foot rolls a total of 48 feet making them 58.3 cents a foot https://www.amazon.com/FoodSaver-Va...food+saver&qid=1617390782&sr=8-5the 50 foot rolls of Wesson bags don't fit inside the space in the food saver machine for the bags the roll is too fat until you have sever bags off. not a big deal in my machine set the roll behind bring it up over in into the cutter cut several bags off then seal the end then fill with food and vac/seal I will take a 70% savings and deal with a fat roll

Products to be sealed need to be dry if using a food saver. For instance, if you wanted to seal berries, freeze them first. This is to avoid drawing juice inside your machine. Yeah, found that out the hard way. I used to vacuum seal ripe peaches from the orchard. That way I'd have them year round. I still do but I slice and freeze them first now. I vacuum seal about eighty pounds of apple-venison sausage a year. I freeze them before vacuum-sealing into six-packs. Otherwise they mush too much.
Eh...wot?
