Can freeze it wet...but better to at least pop it several times to get most water out of it. I prefer to flesh them with damp hair.

If it were me I would turn it in to the G&F.

That's probably where it's headed MJM. I already sent an email and reported it to our wildlife biologist that approves the permits. Our otter season ended 3/15, but just in case I can get the tag, I want to preserve it. They may tell me to turn it in, dispose of it or grant a tag. During season, they want the carcass, so they will get that either way. Biologist will get back to me Monday, I've known him for 22 years and he's really good about this stuff. Thanks.

From what I have seen most are good about things like that. I had to turn one in a few years ago.

See if you can get it tanned and give it to a kids educational program if they will allow that, I have 2 mink I have permits for that are going that way this year.
Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

From what I have seen most are good about things like that. I had to turn one in a few years ago. This one is only my 4th otter. First one I had mounted, second was tanned. Third was same circumstances as this one, but in RI. No season at all in RI so had to turn it in. No big deal if I can't keep it, I stopped skinning for fur a few years ago. I just hate to toss such a nice pelt.

I've never kept otter in the freezer to long but my spring beaver I kepp until fall. I skin when dry then wet down the flesh side of the hide and wrap up tight and put in the freezer. I would think this would work for a otter.
