My 870 410 with a fixed full choke will shoot ~ 140 with #9, ~155 with #9.5 (only shot this once) and ~203 with #10 (only shot this once). My 301T with the factory choke will shoot ~100 with #9, ~150 with #9.5 and ~166 with #10 (only shot this once). Buffer did not seem to help so I left it out.
My 500 20ga will put anywhere from 280 to over 380 with #9 shot depending on the choke that I use. I use and indian creek .555 (~380) and keep some lead reloads and hevi 13 loads with me for when I know the shots will be closer. Oddly, all 3 of these loads have the same point of impact.

I'm currently shooting federal mag-shok 3" 2oz #5s and I have stoned birds at 40+ yards but I hunt a lot of public land and one property is nontoxic for everything already and with all of the big bullet companies making more and more nontoxic loads i think it's only a matter of time before all go nontoxic the way they did waterfowl and doves. I rather get ahead of the game and start making my own for less than $6 a shell instead of paying $10 to $15 a piece.

Follow the recipe exactly. Not many folks give those out for liability reasons. Do not sub or differentiate. We shoot 3” or slightly smaller 20ga shells with #9 shot. Great shell that kills farther than I will shoot. TSS is great, but the choke is where the pattern comes from. I’d suggest building a backstop with 1/8” steel as the catch. We use carpet hung over the front to shoot through. You can save a lot of shot when you’re sighting and pattern testing. The only other thing I’d suggest is once you find the components needed, order enough to last for years. Right now powder is hard to come by. I found a guy that sells this stuff and has been selling and shooting this stuff for a long time and if you buy your tss from him he will provide you with a plethora of recipes, he only asks you not to share them.
