Kinda like putting a "do not drink" message on battery acid?
You'll never fix stupid so why cause hoops for trappers and manufactures to jump thru?
Nope, we have enough laws Maybe an IQ test before you're able to buy a license might not be a bad idea? Lol Sorry fool, you'll have to look to another state for your mandatory laws you want, we already have most as I've pointed out.

This is where you are talking about heading us. Trap certificationThis is a slippery slope of no return. New Jersey has already outlawed ALL foot hold traps. Not only their use but even to retain them in a collection. Ask Newt how that worked out for him. Before you go to war with an enemy you best learn about them. They will not be pacified to limit us to a few traps as they want the practice eliminated. Like I said before even though padded jaw traps were tested and deemed not as humane as the steel laminated traps they are pushing them in this study. Building the case to outlaw it all. This ^^^ perzactly

HA ha The Aihts has put more and better traps in the hands of trappers than they ever had before-and much more humane traps at that. All spearheaded by trappers(Ontario trappers were way out ahead of humane trapping starting in the 70's,more than 20 years before the aihts was signed). It is probably the main reason we dont have all the trapping bans like you poor buggers have to live with.

Who do you think came up with the laminations being used? It was trappers and not by government mandate. That link shows they are still pushing the rubber jawed traps that have WORSE scores then the laminated. Just wait Boco until you get enough city folks you will be in the same battle.

I use rubber jaw #3 on lynx-they work better compared to the old #3 LS.Even when frozen. I agree with you it is always trappers pushing for more humane and better tools on both sides of our border, not the antis. The antis in europe thought when they signed on to the aihts in the 90's that trappers would be put out of buisness. But we knew we had them hoodwinked big time as we already had been testing and working on humane traps and methods for over 30 years. They had no clue.

I wasn't talking about the holding performance but the injury score. The rubber jaws cut the blood flow off quicker when the rubber is pliable.

I feel exactly the same way C. Dobbins did. Imo looks like he was a forward thinker and way ahead of his time. His ideas are accurate for today as they were years ago and still will be in the future.
This is my version of the way things should be, 1, in a perfect world all trappers could use and rely on common sense to do the right. If your still not sure what the right thing is then read the 3 pages from Mr. Dobbins books i posted above.
2, voluntary trappers education. Imo education goes hand in hand with bmps. Read the 3 pages again.
3, if for some reason the public view of trapping starts going down without a good reason then i think states should look into mandatory trappers ed.
4, only way i would be ok for bmps to be mandatory statewide is if all alternatives are exhausted and their backs are against the wall.
Bottom line is keeping the antis out of office and making the laws that put us out of business. Make sure you vote and vote for the right person.

Wars are not won by playing defense and being nice to the enemy. Does the name Nevile Chamberlain ring a bell? Make no mistake, we’re in a war. Not for conquest or national pride but for the minds of approximately 80% of Americans that DONT think about trapping every day. We will never change the minds of Radical Animal Rights Activists just as surely as they will never change ours. What we can do, to help the eighty% see the logic of wildlife control in a manner that directly affects their lives thereby creating VALUE to the work we do. BMP’s Ha! If you asked 100 people in any city in new england what they thought about BMP they would look at you like you were a few fries short of a happy meal. They don’t know and they don’t care! If’s you showed them a picture of fluffy DEAD in a coyote’s mouth being packed off for dinner. Then showed them a picture of a coyote laying peacefully with a coil spring on its foot and asked them which they would prefer, tell me the overwhelming majority wouldn’t point at the second one. We have to tell the truth to the uneducated people living detached from nature and reality.
They don’t know or care which is more “humane” rubber jaws or laminated.
They just want fluffy to come back into the house after doing his business. And heaven forbid we start talking about kids!! Why Granny herself would be grabbing the 12 x 2
Thanks for your time.

I wasn't talking about the holding performance but the injury score. The rubber jaws cut the blood flow off quicker when the rubber is pliable. The rubber jaw traps passed the aihts thresholds of injuries in all 14 of the indicators when necropsied. Dont know about your testing(bmp) at all but am very familiar with the aihts.

... the winged maxi pads are far superior to rubber jaws when it comes to not hurting coyote toes

I will be replacing that WCS dog with a 2 &5/8s stainless dog I just got the Expand A Pan the otherday. So another reason = the nut is loose. Im going to see what stainleas steel dog does. Before I tighten up Case I have. To put nylon shims in it After stainless steel dog = to lower pan weight

As cmcf said education of the public is what we need to keep trapping. If one goes looking you can find attacks on kids as well as livestock though the media as a whole doesn't give it much press time.
To reach the public will take more then joining your trappers associations. We need dedicated folks willing to man a booth at social gatherings that can answer the tough questions. The Quad City boat show was a good one as there were several thousand through the gates When the wife and I went while members of the Illinois trappers. I also attended and worked a Trail Blazers in our local Boy Scout function. Be willing to show up and work a NTA convention as well. These things don't happen on their own. Several schools allow you to schedule demonstrations for the kids. If we reach them with the truth they are more likely to at least think for themselves hopefully BEFORE the Anti's poison the well with lies and emotion.

You going to use that pan for coyotes? NO. Not legal anywhere I trap but Texas. I have = a # 4 Newhouse Texas Special. Two # 5 Alaskan Bridger 4 coil traps And this 1 WCS 7.5 with EXpand A Pan. Just in case I am somewhere I can legally catch a mt lion.
