So you'll get $13,000 a year from SS and if you work somewhere besides you can make up to $18,000 gross. That's about $30,000 gross a year. You will be paying income tax on that I believe plus whatever your medical will cost. Only you can decide on this. Shouldn't be hard to come up with a part time job in the Dubuque area if you go that route.

I know you're fighting tooth and nail on getting a better job and that's also on you.
If you thought you were going to make money trapping this year you are delusional.

Good Luck

It is my fault on not find more places to trap or same ole plavez an continue there as why lost more money, hard tell unless keep track expensives, may be shock if did, adds up quick, unfortunately it would been good year not trap like some as prices are just way to low, only thing barely acceptble is end season rat prices an not early rat prices,

Have you guys been paying attention to any of coonman's posts? He doesn't have any money, doesn't have any savings, most likely has very little in a retirement plane.

He shouldn't even entertain thoughts of retiring until he hits at least full retirement age which I imagine is 66.5 for his age group. For sure not until he is able to go on medicare.

If I were in Dave's shoes I'd be scared silly. Can you imagine trying to live on 1100 a month at 80 years old and not being able to work much? Inflation is going to run 3 percent a year for a few years in real terms it will be closer to ten. There wont' be any buying power left in 11000 a month in 10 to 15 years.

Why should it be much more? It's based on what you earned and payed in. You should have considered that for the last 40 years.

You do realize that there was money paid into that account by each worker and their employer? If the aholes hadn't taken that money out of my check I'd be light years ahead investing it on my own. My problem is I'm plagued with being good at math. And like everyone pointed out to you we don't get free health care. If he wants health care before 65 he'll have to pay a grand a month most likely or more.

So at 65 you pay $150 out of your SS check and another $150 for your supplement so that $300 for health coverage that’s better then most of the insurance out there today.

You need to hang in there till your full retirement age.the last 3 years my ssi has gone up 319.00 a month.get another part time job and and bank some cash for a new used truck before you retire. It doesn’t matter how long ppl tell you it takes to break even by not taking it early it only matters how much your gonna have to survive on.

Put a loincloth on, work on a accent, any will do. Hang all them coon peckers round your neck. March into the welfare office like a Boss, start yapping and don't stop. You will get a monthly check, health care and all the perks!!

when Medicare kicks in at 65, its 148.00 you have to pay that even to be able to qualify for a supplemental program of any kind.

Don't know about Iowa, but Utah used to be a SS taxable state until this year, we had a new law passed this year that does away with tax's on these benefits, which means there are now only 14 other states that do this, yours may be one or not, check into it, it increase the value of your SS

Your SS bennies are figured on 35 years of continuous work, not the last five or ten as mentioned, the highest years of your income knocks the lowest out as long as you working, the higher your wage income the higher your SS bennies are, not a set amount due to age, this is a misnomer and should be cleared up.

Your eligible for bennies at 62 or 65 depending on your birthday, taking them early at this time will cost you, if you are working a full time job, you will be docked according to your income a dollar per three sent according to your gross income,, you will have a set amount you can work according to your pay scale before this docking occurs,,, when you age to Full Retirement age, this amount will come back in to your account, most think it's gone for ever, the SS booklet you receive covers and explains this quite well due to the confusion of it all. However your payment check stays the same, thus the confusion.

If you have anyone around you that is on SS you should be able to read their manual sent when applying for Benefits as well as yearly when they upgrade things.
Good Luck !

Coonman220. Work your last 3yrs. Find work that offers a 401k. Employee savings acct. or some type of Roth IRA employer sponsored acct. Employers like that are the people you want to work for. In 3 yrs you would reach your 65 age pay in social security. You could work part time for that employer. And have something saved. Never to late to start saving. Don’t ever give up. Don’t count on fur as an income. It is not an income you can count on. Good luck to you sir.
