Put a stick on its neck then pick it up and take it outside and let it go!

Take a stick and beat it repeatedly on its neck, until it no longer moves, then pick it up and take it outside and let it go! Fixed it for ya LD!

You could try the glue traps and place an egg on them as bait.
You probably know this, but those snakes are good snakes. They'll take care of mice, rats, and will also eat venomous snakes And quail, young rabbits, eggs out of the chicken coup, and young chicks. They only need to eat every few weeks so are limited on the mouse killing they do. Normally they get a pass unless they are by the chicken house.

it will leave on its own when it starts staying warm at night. black snakes are harmless to humans. unless you have a pet parakeet or mice no pet worries either. I wouldnt worry to much about it. Next time you see it just grab it. Bite is like the bite of a catfish.

. Bite is like the bite of a catfish. yep, and welders gloves help keep all that bacteria off your hands/abrasions. I've been known to encourage/get them to bite the welder glove so THEN I can easily grab em behind the head to control em from then on.

Seriously though, the Cahaba Snake trap from WCS works with a LARGE sticky pad inside.
Or make your own out of downspout material or even cardboard.
WCS is the sponsor of the ADC forum here so go there and click on their link to see the Cahaba. or find it on Amazon possibly.
I watched a 5 ft rat snake go into a Cahaba in our living room one night about 1 am. It was awesome and I couldn't believe it at the time.

I leave rat snakes alone, get rid of them and something nasty might take its place
