I’m thinking about the military, maybe even trying to get into West Point. What is your opinions on joining the military even though the government of that military is becoming increasingly corrupt.

I'm not a servicemember, but my personal opinion is that we need all the people we can get in the armed forces who are loyal to the Constitution and the country above the government. Serve well, just know where your line in the sand is and remember it.

If you score well on your testing you can get into a good job and learn a useful skill for the future. For me the military was the best experience of my life. You will become a man and meet some of the best friends in your life. If you're really not sure of what to do with your future presently, I think the military is a great step forward. Matt.

It worked for my father for 34 years through 3 wars , World War II and Korea and Vietnam. 1942-76.
It takes special people to want to follow orders and serve our country honorably.

Lots to consider. Family? How many years are you looking to serve? Etc.? Ask yourself (if you are in in a relationship) would your relationship survive being apart for long time frames. Do you trust them enough? I was a Navy brat and had six siblings. My dad was out on the ocean for the first couple years of my life and many time frames as I grew older. My parents were strong and we did pretty good. Most schools I went too were mostly military and there was a lot of troubled kids.

That said I am very pro military folk. God bless you if you sign up to serve!

I am loyal to the constitution. I just fear what if I joined and had to do something I don’t agree with?

not sure how old you are , but if you don't have a conversation going with your Senator by 16 , your not to likely to be going to west point unless you get incredibly dedicated to it , tomorrow.

excellent grades , service groups you belong to , talking with your senator about a spot at west point.

there are a lot of other ways to serve and become an officer. ROTC , do you belong to a JROTC group currently , are there any in your area , Young Marines , Sea Cadets , civil air patrol?

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

What ever branch you chose. Study that branch's history and traditions.
And learn morris code. Learning these things will have you ahead of the curve.
And I'd try for Warrant Officer, better than West Point officers IMO
Good luck in what ever you decide

Maybe look into joining ROTC and possibly enlist as an officer.

If you have any bachelor degree you can join the Navy as an officer that way. My younger brother is in the Navy and is overseas currently. I had strongly considered joining the Navy with my bachelors in Nursing, but now I'm newly wed with a baby girl coming in mid June. The obligations of a wife and a family starting up are why I will remain a civilian.

You go to prison. Your oath of enlistment is to the Constitution of the United States, period. If you can't agree to that then its best not to take the oath.
On that grounds alone you may refuse, and are REQUIRED TO DO SO, an unlawful order. However, you dang well better be able to prove that the order was indeed unlawful.
Just following orders is not a defense.

You'll need a Congressional recommendation to attend any service academy. Need to get working on that right away.

I hear that its changed a lot since I joined in 83. Joining was one of the best decisions I ever made.

I served as a Coast Guard Reservist for 27 years. Have fond memories of my accomplishments as the commanding officer of a small unit on the Outer Banks of NC.

Now my health insurance is free for me and my wife and I receive a monthly pension. You won’t find a stronger advocate for a military career. Go for it. An education at any of the four academies will be priceless for your future.

You do not need a Congressional recommendation to attend the Coast Guard Academy. It is competitive. If you are an outstanding student you could get accepted. I urge you to inquire.

Best thing I ever did. 17 years old, travelled all over the world, England, Germany, Italy, Panama, Honduras, Saudi Arabia, Ireland, Egypt. I've been to 49 of the 50 states. Have life long friends I would literally give my life for. Retired at the ripe old age of 37. Loved being in the Air Force. Worked with all the other services, so happy I went into the AF.
