White marlin -

I've got one (Model 39 TDS) that I've used hard and abused quite regularly for more than thirty years. I really liked it in Alaska, as I could take it down and the two parts would fit in my inside parka pockets, I could jump in and out of the airplane, strap on the snowshoes and go jogging to my sets. Really fine little gun for what I was doing. It always liked long rifle or short ammunition; never a problem. Bought and gave one to a friend and he used it the same way. Then, about 10 years ago, I looked again into buying another for another friend, and I was astounded at the price increase. They've just skyrocketed since that time. Other than the exorbitant price, I have nothing but good things to say about that little rifle.

Jack

A friend has one. I've offered him $600 for it several times and he won't budge.

appreciate the replies!

this one is not a TDS model, so guessing it isn't take down.

and it's pretty solid/heavy.

I have a 39A as dose my brother. Both rifles are still tackdrivers and both have been abused most of there lives. The one I have was Dad's and lasted through 3 of us boys and numerous grandkids abuse. I can't remember what year Dad said he bought the thing, but it is over 60 years old, oldest brother said Dad had it as long as he can remember. As someone said above the price has gotten ridiculous, but the rifles are great.

I should add both the rifles I am familiar with are the gold trigger edition, I think they was supposed to be a little better quality than the standard 39A.

I have a 39A Golden still in excellent condition that I got used about 1968. I also have a like new Mountie that my dad bought new about a year later. The Mountie barrel is a couple of inches shorter than the 39A's barrel and has a straight grip vs the 39A pistol grip. Both will breakdown by backing out the knurled screw on the side of the receiver and folding the rear and front parts of the receiver to separate them. They are wonderful rifles.

Google Marlin 39a. The Marlin 39A represents the oldest and longest continuously produced shoulder firearm in the world. That says something right there.

Well worth having if you can pick one up at a good price.

Which is getting harder to do all the time.
