I filmed my trapping this past season and am in the process of uploading the videos to YouTube. I have about half the season (18 videos) up so far and am uploading new videos twice a week. If you guys are interested give it a look and let me know what you think. I will take any inputs good or bad. I can't really change much for last years footage but I can film more this fall if you guys want to see anything specific.

A little back story. I trap in west central MN. Mostly flat farm land with scattered sloughs. I trap a mix of public land and private. I catch mostly coyotes, fox, raccoons, and muskrats. I do get the occasional beaver, mink, and badger and more skunks then I care to speak of.

Just curious - your location is North Dakota and you're trapping in Minnesota where non-residents are not allowed to trap. How do you do that.....legally?

Give it up to the boss man for recognizing what most don't. Long story short, I have a Lifetime Trapping license in Minnesota that I bought while still a resident of MN before moving to ND. That gives me full trapping rights as if I was still a resident. I have talked to both Conversation officers in the field and DNR headquarter guys and it all is legal.

I subbed as well, only a couple videos in, ur really hammering the skunks, jealous! $$$ also great content and format, looking forward to watching more videos. Ik I prefer set location stuff, making sets in various weather, and more of the full season, how u run ur line and stuff. The trapping videos that r constant catches and nothing else bores me but great stuff, good quality too!

I tried to subscribe but I think it only takes E-mail address's from Google so it seems. Am I doing things wrong, how to correct that......jk

I tried to include what I could on set locations on everything except for the muskrats. They were all just simple sets in the road ditches. I am working on making more detailed videos of types of sets and the equipment i use. They should be coming out over the summer and fall.



YouTube is owned by google so you might very well have to have a Gmail account to log in. You need to log in to subscribe. I am happy just for the views and understand that not everyone wants to or will subscribe. Others might be more knowledgeable on the subject than me.

Hey Schmattz, I’ve been following ur YouTube stuff pretty religiously haha good stuff! Curious tho (if u don’t mind me asking) what do u do for work? U get awesome trap line check hours. I start work at 6 am so all my stuff is headlamp 4am checking

I subbed too. I like your commentary. Sounds as if you don't like catching skunks. I love catching them. Wish I had the numbers you do. Between hide and essence they're good money. Better than the coon. Keep up the good work. I'll be watching some more.

I am a mechanical designer/drafter. I have been there long enough that I have a pretty solid benefit package that includes a bunch of vacation. I take off roughly 30 to 35 days just to trap. That is how I get to run the line I do. It takes me from sun up to sunset (some times more) to run the line and skin everything each day. That doesn't leave much time for "Work". I work 6 to 5:30 so even running a short line isn't really an option with our check laws.

I don't like catching skunks only because of the time it takes me to take care of them and move on. I only got about 2/3rds of the coyote line out that I wanted this year and spending the time dealing with skunks played a big part in that. By the time I had time to put out more sets, I only had a week left to run the line. I took the essence out of them but only skinned 5 this year just because of the extra time to skin and wash the hides in a peroxide baking soda wash to remove the smell (Which is also an added cost to skinning them). I flesh everything indoors and don't need that smell in the basement of our house. I also don't have skunks with the nice wide white stripes. My skunks either have very narrow strips that sometimes don't even connect the head to the tail or the skunks with nice wide strips are a nice bright orange color and my buyer made it clear that he doesn't want either. I made about $7.75 per skunk just by removing the essence and I didn't have to do the work of skinning.
