After I went through about 3 cheap ones I upgraded to this. Highly recommended!

I made my own, one of these days I'm going to make a bigger one that will hold more dirt, but I've never gotten around to it. If you can weld you can easily make one out of expanded metal and angle iron, it will be heavier than aluminum but very stout and you can choose the size of expanded metal you want to use. If you can't weld you could make a much flimsier one out of a cake pan by just drilling a bunch of holes in it like steeltraps. You wouldn't be able to lean on it like you could a steel one or his, but you can pick up a cake pan at the thrift store for under a buck.

My steel one I made took about fifteen minutes and I could run over it without damaging it. There are some fancy ones that have a solid piece you slide in to cover the holes while you fill it with dirt, would work nice for sifting sand or fine dust or waxed dirt but I always figured I would have it bent up in short order and have it so it wouldn't slide.

I had almost the same thing, but, like I said, too many rocks got through.

I've been using one of Josh's as well for 4-5 years and it's holding up well. As does all of his equipment

I have the expanded mesh like that and have small rocks go through. Have used that type for 15 years or more. Probably only ever missed 3 animals because of rocks getting wedged in between jaws. I learned the key is just to brush any rocks away from jaws of set trap.

I made this back in the mid 70's. 1 x 3-1/2 sides. i/4" hardware cloth. Glue and screw the wood together. Cut the hardware cloth oversize to fold up the edges and tack or screw in place. Might be able to make it from leftover scrap pieces.

Use Gorilla glue.

From his 19-20 catalog, the pic looks the same as the F&T sifter

Was just on the Fur Shed Fabrication website and the 1/4" mesh sifter is listed as sold out. The 3/8" is still available but this is the same size as the Freedom Brand from F&T. The 3/8" is bigger than I like. It just lets too much big cover through. In some soil it might not matter but I'll just stick with the 1/4"

Yep. You fooled around and waited to long to get a 1/4 sifter. I thought that 1/4 was perfect in West Texas, when I was trapping there.
