Simplest answer is to find out who services appliances in your area and give 'em a call... They'll tell you which brands they can service and maybe which brands to avoid.
My sister had a Samsung fridge that was nothing but problems... Board kept crapping out on it. It took several incidents and phone calls but they finally wound up giving her a new one.

1 get them from a local dealer, not big box store 2 put a whole house surge protector in, those fancy control panels nowadays are very delicate

Don't buy from the box stores. Its a lesser appliance. You may pay more from your local guy but it should last longer. How is that if it's the same make and model?

Well I missed your original post, but I'll add my .02 anyway for future reference. Probably the best basic advice I was given was "Get appliances made by an appliance company, not a cell phone company." LG and Samsung got into the appliance market with bells and whistles and box store sales. As far as I know, service for them is still practically non-existent. Which makes them a perfect fit for the box stores that don't have service departments anyway. If it quits, you can try to return it to the store, try ordering and changing out parts yourself, or junk it. Now that I see you bought LG, I hope they do well for you. The best place to buy appliances is a local store that services their own warranties. Since they have to fix it if it breaks, they're more likely to sell products that won't break. They also have some flexibility on price. My local appliance store, a 30+ year family business, is great about competing with Home Depot for comparable products. If I tell him what I'm looking for and what Depot's price is, they almost always get pretty close. Even if I spend a couple hundred $$ extra, it's worth it knowing that if it ever has a problem I can call someone 10 miles away that will come to my house with a service truck and work on it. Try asking Home Depot for that
Boco couldn't catch a cold. But if he did, it would be Top Lot.

I have no experience with LG. I have had plastic breakage problems with a Samsung microwave. My 5 year old KitchenAid SxS fridge runs well and keeps steady temps but the veggie bins were apparently made from inferior plastic and are breaking. I worked 15 years as a cost accountant and budgeting coordinator in refrigerator manufacturing (GE) so I know the materials and manufacturing processes. KitchenAid and several other brands have been made by Whirlpool for the last 10 years or more.
