Chauvin most likely agreed to take it because he felt there was a possibility he could be convicted of a higher charge or get more prison time than what was agreed to. From what I was told by a lawyer is he could get 3 times the penalty if the judge chooses because there was a minor present "Inflation is always and everywhere a monetary phenomenon".
