I am looking at a new mercury 20 hp EFI outboard for my 1448 MT crestliner jon boat. Does anybody have any experience with these newer 4 stroke outboards? Looking at mercury because of the dealer support that is close to me.

Been running a 115 merc 4 stroke on my ranger for 5 years. Just change oil every year and lower unit oil every 2 years. Have burned nothing but pump gas in it since new. Have not had problem one with it.

My son has two, a 40hp tiller on his duck boat and a 150 on his Grady White. Never a glitch or hiccup. Quiet and smooth.

V bottom I sold last year had a Mercury 50 horse 4 stroke. I just got a new boat last month with a 50 horse Yamaha 4 stroke. They have made a believer out of me, I'll never own another 2 stroke outboard. Buy it, you won't be disappointed

I got a 40 hp 4 stroke on my Allweld boat. I will never go back to 2 stroke. It’s a Mercury and I also have no complaints.

Thank you all for the replys. My boat currently has a 1983 evinrude 35 hp on it. The motor has some problems and it is going to cost $700-$800 to fix it. If I fix it I still have a 38 yr old motor that who knows how long it will last. That's why i'm gonna go he new motor route

a 20 horse 2 stroke will be faster than a 20 horse 4 stroke. if youve been running a 20 horse 2 stroke and want the same power/speed, you might want to go up to a higher horse power in a 4 stroke. our 4 strokes have been bullet proof.

I have a 20 horse Nissan 4 stroke I think they made the 4 stroke mercury for a while very quite easy on gas about 15 years old no problems at all.

The downside is that now you have to buy insect repellant as the two smoke is not doing that for you anymore.

No you won't and you won't miss the bill at the pump either. Your range will drastically increase.

I've run Merc 60 HP 4-strokes for 20 years. I haven't had a problem. Been real happy with them.

Running a Yamaha 15 hp..4 stroke ..on my canoe. Bought it new in 2012.... no one bit of trouble with it. Super quiet...no smoke...and sips fuel...unlike those horrid 2 strokes.

I have a 60 hp Merc 4 stroke on a tracker bass boat. I was a little disappointed with the time it took to get up on plane so I put a 4 blade spitfire prop on it. Lost a little top end but it pops up quickly now. Real happy with it.

As long as you have a service dealer close by I would have no problem with using a 4 stroke. But in my experience with them you can pretty much forget about trying to diagnosing problems and work on them yourself.
In my remote locations I switched back to all 2 strokes.

6 years ago, I bought a 2012 Mercury 60 EFI Bigfoot on my 20' commercial Jon boat. I love it, it's been very reliable.

You will love the Merc 4 stroke, but I bet they are about 24 weeks out on these motors right now. If you need one and you find one, buy it!
