The apple snail is the primary food of the large shellcrackers (red eared sunfish) found in Merritts Mill Pond just outside Marianna, Florida. I haven't been down there for at least 20 years. For a video of fishing in the pond see- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5IUZmAdtz4.

Channeled or Island applesnail. Highly invasive species from South America.

There is also a native Florida Applesnail but it's eggs are larger and typically white.
