This is my first attempt at anything like this. I found and was given a black walnut tree that was blown down over a year a go. So I took the log a bought a bandsaw mill. Decided the track was too short so I built my own 24' track learned how to wire/mig weld. Now the grandson's have a solid walnut bunk bed. I did use 1" red oak for the mattress slats What do you think should I have done something different?

I like to put some gloss polyurethane on it...really makes any burl, or lighter wood pop. Looks good!

I didn't see anything about drying the lumber. The comment about it being heavy brought that to my attention.
Hopefully, you will have no problems with the wood shrinking.
