Boy and I went to range Friday to pattern couple guns with turkey loads., Wasn't surprised wasn't much brass on ground what with ammo scares and all..being spring never as much as fall anyway, most what was there was usual 22 and steel cases. Did have couple pieces catch my eye though as I always picking up some better brass when see it. I think is first time I can recall find this size brass anywhere ? Weird enough for me to wonder why someone that would shoot this round..Didn't pick up brass even if to give to someone else? Is only six pieces but still seems strange for me was left behind.. Was 2 pieces by one range bench other 4 maybe 5 yard out front the bench? I don't keep up on things like most, thought maybe was in some kinda hand gun..then thought no wouldn't be spread out like was more likely leaver gun..Maybe someone got them a new Henry? they make one them this cal don't they?

The 45-70 does seem to be popular in lever actions.

Remington/Peters, that ammo had been around a few years.
Didn't they remove Peters from their name quite some time ago?

I think Remington still uses the R-P headstamp on at least some of their ammo.

They still use that headstamp on 270 Win. and I'm sure many more if not all rifle ammo. I did see the old Peters boxes around last year at Cabela's I think. It may have been one of those nostalgia editions. It was nice to see that though.

All my Remington 45-70 brass is stamped R-P. I mainly use Starline brass for 45-70 but have about forty rounds of Remington. Fairly common out here, and probably 90% lever guns. They do chamber it in some singleshots and there is even a couple pistols chambered in it.

Remember the thread about the guy with two pieces of plywood in his truck and posters were talking about the guy showing off his wealth well just maybe a guy with lots of ammo is leaving casings to show others he has great wealth also.

Is an odd caliber to find. Probably more around than a person thinks.
I have it in a Marlin.

As for the head stamp, that's the stamp Remington has used for decades on all calibers.

I knew was Remington casing just don't think I've ever found 6 45-70 casing in my whole life. Let alone found 6 at one time. Just thought it kinda funny. Maybe some ranges it's laying around regular just never seen to many in my wondering. Thought was going be 44 or 45 long casing when first seen them, realized were to long before even read stamp.

Hoo would want a 45 70 in a hand gun. That is just not right.

LOL they make a revolver in that caliber. I also have that in a Thompson Contender.

the 45-70 revolvers typically only hold 5 Magnum research makes th good ones .
the lever guns may hold 6

and you only found 6 , someone probably got a new gun and doesn't reload wanted to try it out
