USA is too anti fur,be a bad move to try to set up there. Being half run by First Nations Trappers(5 of the 10 board directors are FN) it would never happen anyway.

Don't move the company here. Or they can sit around wringing their hands waiting for your dingbat government to decide their future. I'd be more proactive. It can't be that big a deal to bring in some samples. They were able to take them all the way to Helsinki.

Funny, we don't have registered traplines and all the AIHTS regs on what traps we can use. Seems like we are a lot more trapper friendly to me. You don't have to buy or inherit a trapline in order to have the right to trap, and yes each state has their own regs on what traps are legal, but they are generally much more lenient that Canada and don't depend on the manufacturer bribing the authorities to certify their trap.

I have sold to them for over 40 years when they were OTA. I know everyone that works there and those on the board-all trappers. I will let you know what my director says. I cannot work for them-I am a director on the OFMF board and our constitution forbids any director to work for any fur marketing entity. Cathryn,I believe your FHA board director is Toby Edwards from NY. Boco I.n All seriousness we get no communication from fur harvesters. Do you know when their magazine comes out? They took money for a magazine put of our check..but we haven't seen one yet. We shipped fur over a year go. the only thing we have received from them is 2 checks. The first had a grade sheet and sales results..the second one was a check only..no results or anything. Maybe FH in Canada handles things differently?

Speaking of food, I am enjoying some popcorn as I follow this thread.

Speaking of food, I am enjoying some popcorn as I follow this thread. Exactly, no one is forcing anyone to ship to FHA. This is correct. By people expressing how they feel at least gives people the freedom to think for themselves. Free thinking goes along with common sense and sometimes that is not all that common. I expect alot of trappers have seen and heard and will make that choice for themselves. Then maybe we will see a little more transparency from a company that is supposed to be exactly that. Holding information so people will ship fur will backfire. Time will tell. Canadians have little option. Americans have more options. LLL

I can't believe it, i agree with dirt. Lol They should hold a sale in South Dakota. Invite the governor and and have a fur coat made for her to model around in. I would donate fur for that!

Market was fairly robust at the time Cathryn. I was rubbing elbows with, Chinese, Koreans, and some sort of eastern Europeans in the buffet line during the break. Nothing like that now I'll bet.

Lots of paperwork and rig a maroll to get the sample bundles into the US and then back in to Canada. Checking CITES tag numbers is a pain.
The food at Seattle Fur Exchange / American Legend was pretty good - as long as the market was strong and prices were high. You should have seen the food one time during the 90s when prices were bad. Loaves of bread and slices of bologna. And the buyers had to make their own sandwiches!! The food at NAFA was better. I might be wrong (please correct me if I am) I was fairly young at the time, but I remember shipping and/or taking fur to the Seattle Fur Exchange, that was then sold there at auction. I didn't think it left the country before auction so the CITES paperwork to cross international boundaries would only be for the Canadian fur that was shipped down. Frankly I would think something like that would be worth it for FHA during these times, in order actually be able to have buyers present. I think the headache would be worth the extra sales value. Now if you were just renting a facility for the auction you would have to deal with moving any unsold furs across the border to your Canadian long term storage, but this would be hopefully a much lesser number than they are currently moving across the border from their US pickup routes.
