Went out this morning in search of the forests gold. Had a decent haul for a couple hours of searching.
Do many of you guys forage this stuff?

I used to, sold it wholesale to a dealer called , Birch Boys, in Tupperware Lake , NY. But for $3 /lb green and $6/lb dry it’s not worth the trouble.

What are you getting paid for your 2 hours of work to collect your maybe 3 pounds of dry?

Found a "goldmine" several weeks back. very few birch trees in my area so I was surprised to even see any Chaga (Inonotus obliquus)

I took a couple of chunks and left the rest. There are some mega-sized chunks that I will come back for one day. I don't sell any though. what kind of prices do you get for it MySide?

No one around my area is paying anymore. I collected while deer hunting, always found more than I could carry in my pack. Carried out 32 lbs one day.
So what’s it worth green and dry ? I could easily supply around 200 lbs green each fall. Also I’ve read that it has more nutrients if collected in fall and winter ?

I'm not super knowledgeable on the matter, but I have heard numbers like $100 per KG

I sell a little to friends and keep the rest myself right now.

Yeah, it’s worth big money until you try to sell it, kind of like fur.

It is not like fur. It is profitable and you can get a guaranteed contract price before you harvest.

Took me about two hours with a snowmobile and a ladder two years ago to get about 30 lbs worth. Still have some in the freezer, plus a few gallons dried.

I am supposed to send some to a guy on here, but I been so freaking busy...

Yeah, could have been earlier, but I don't really care all that much

Well,,If you are harvesting for Medecinal purposes,,you SHOULD care that's Its harvested properly and at the right time.If you don't care because your just selling it to unsuspecting buyers that are unaware you are not harvesting at the optimal time frame,,then I guess too bad for them and shame on you.
