Bearcat2 - you are partially correct. Seattle Fur Exchange was a receiving agent for Fur Harvesters. They collected goods, shipped them to Canada to be graded. All grading, with the exception of raccoons was done in Canada. That way they were able to offer one unified collection.

Once graded, the samples were pulled and shipped to Seattle to be auctioned. Then the samples were shipped back to Canada to be combined with the bulks and shipped to the buyer or his customer.

If, for example you had a bobcat that happened to be in a sample and that lot was bought by a US buyer (me for example), that would be a well traveled pelt.

Your town in Idaho to Seattle to Cambridge Wisconsin to North Bay to Seattle to North Bay to Moscow Idaho. You should have sold the cat to me in the first place. Just Kidding!!!! This is only an example.

I still maintain that the logistics of having a sale in the US is a logistically nightmare.

So could all the fur collected At the Cambridge facility stay there and the graders come to Cambridge? Then find a place to sell the fur In the States Instead of going through this shipping nightmare.

FHA needs to move the next auction this year no matter when it is to Grand Forks ND.
1....78 miles from the Canada border
2......The Customs boarder crossing is in Phemiba. ND 78 miles straight North
of Grand Forks ND. Dozens of shipping company’s to work with getting sample lots
To Grand Forks and back to Canada. More shipping company’s there than the general population is. That’s what they do in Phemiba ND.
3..... Would help prices for both the trapper and FHA auction house because buyers can at least travel in the USA and Foreign buyers can get to the USA.
4... Put pressure on Canada Gov to get their act together and stop the Covid madness and wrecking
Their Commerce with every country In the world.
I am just shocked at the poor planning of FHA over the last year. So many opportunities to get things right in the past year and now going forward. Don’t wait to see if Canada will be open in 2021 schedule it in Grand Forks ND and be done with it. The April auction should have been scheduled in 60 days ago and buyers could have bought their plan tickets cheap. It would have been standing room only in The building. MD

How many international buyers will come to Grand Forks, North Dakota?

I wonder how many flights arrive at there airport every day?

Yes, there are multiple shipping companies in Pembina but how many of them handle F&W shipments and know how to do the paperwork?

CITES goods still need to be inspected.

What about the logistics of the moving the technology from North Bay to Grand Forks and then back to North Bay.

Still lots of obstacles. IMO

Probably be easier to move the border down 78 miles and make that place part of Manitoba.

Buyers don't want competition. Trappers/ Auctions want competition. I'd take trappers advice. That's my advice. smile

At least they could actually come into the US. As long as Canada is scared to death of COVID there will be no "auction". What are they afraid of anyway? They might get COVID in Canada? It is already there for Pete's sake. Have them provide record of vaccination and start living again. This is insane.(see Hippies link) LLL

Biden's on the news now telling people who have gotten the vaccine that the CDC has loosened restrictions on them.
They are now ok to not wear a mask IF, outside and not around people.

Again, if Your vacinated, you don't have to wear a mask outside if your not around other people.

laugh ok! lol

And all across this great land there are folks crawling out of their basements, sneaking out into their backyards, and pealing off a couple layers of masks to once again breath fresh air! Thanks uncle Joe!

WissMiss, thanks for the clarification. I still think it would be in FHAs best interest, although it would no doubt be a major headache. If Canada wasn't being so obstructive it would be stupid and not worth it. But as is, I'm unsure of how long they can stay in business running it like this. And I want them to stay in business even if I never ship them a single fur again. I want to have options and the competition is good for the market.

Hey Boco stay out of US politics;
If it was not for some tea stain on a map during the Signing of Treaty of Versa in a library in Paris. Canada's boarder would be straight across form Fort William on the 47th lattitude

Just got in and checked my message from director,
The july sale is most likely postponed to either late august or early september.
After talking with many buyers who want to come to buy fur that is likely the scenario because of the govt travel restrictions. FHA is solid as a rock and the fur trucks were loaded with fur.Very good shipment from Quebec trappers I heard.
