I wonder the other day what you had for calves so far. I miss having them, until its -20 and I have to go feed and the tank heater went out.. smile

330, those are some good looking black baldy calves, my favorite kind.

I had to pull a calf last week out of a first calf heifer. Didn’t have the calf puller with me cause I loaned it to a buddy and forgot to get it back. Took me a my dad about 30 minutes to get the calf pulled. It was a BIG bull calf. One of the front feet was kinda stuck back behind the calf’s jaw. Finally got ahold of it and got my pulling ropes on both front feet. Front feet and head came out without to much trouble but couldn’t get the hips to pass through. After two grown men pulling for about 15 minutes we had to get the four wheeler and add some tension and got it out. The cow couldn’t get up for about 6 hours so I had to milk her laying down to get some colostrum. Calf was weak and had one foot that wanted to roll under so he couldn’t get up either. Had to tube feed him colostrum and splint his leg/foot. Finally got him up the next morning and got him to suck the cow. Left the splint on him for four days and now they’re both doing good. First calf heifers can sure be a pain in the arse sometimes.

You mean you cow farmers have to do more than just watch them cows eat free gov grass and roll in the big cash ?

2014 and 2015 are about the only years I can remember making a decent profit. If you like working hard and don’t like making money get into the cattle business.

I’ve always thought if I ever won the lottery I’d probably just buy more cows and a few more nice horses and keep ranching til I was broke again lol..
