I have heated my house with a top loader like that for years. Have one in our cabin in NW Ontario too. Love them, only have to clean out ashes a few times a year. You can really load them up with wood, way more than any front loader. Mine are Naden brand. Naden made boats and stoves out of Vermilion Bay Ont. for years. They had a US patten as well but I can’t remember the name off hand. Not sure if yours is a Naden, I’ve never seen one with 4 vents. I would buy it in a heartbeat, I love the control and volume of wood these stoves hold. Great pic! The people that have it got back with me and said it's solid steel, not cast iron and said it's heavy lol. Thanks for your help, thanks to all of you for your help and replies. I think I'm gonna get the dern thing and see how she does.
I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

I’m sure you’ll love it. I cut my wood 12”-13” long now so I can actually stack it in the stove the short way and get a ton of wood in it. Great for overnight or loading twice a day in shop.

I use an old Coleman fuel can with the top cut off and just scoop them out from top. Once its cold, a shop vac would make quick work of it.

In my experience vacuums can't handle the fine ash of a wood stove. The ash either blows right through the filters and fills the room or he filters clog pretty quickly. I shovel my ashes out with a small shovel made just for that job.
Eh...wot?

Neither does mine. I let it burn down to coals and shovel excess ash out from under them.
Eh...wot?

In my experience vacuums can't handle the fine ash of a wood stove. The ash either blows right through the filters and fills the room or he filters clog pretty quickly. I shovel my ashes out with a small shovel made just for that job. I finally switched my shopvac to a bag and washable filter. I should never have to buy a filter again, and bags are cheap. On the stove, I'm sure you could easily make a scoop to clean the ash out hot. The extra vent holes could be used like burners if it was made for cooking with cast iron. Also, I'd put a wood handle on that lid like Trapset has. Save you some gloves if you open it when it's hot
Boco couldn't catch a cold. But if he did, it would be Top Lot.

Hey Trapset, do you know the dimensions of your stove?
I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Catch, you sure it's steel? Most of those old stoves were cast iron, and if you had a crack or broken spot, they're about impossible to fix! If it is metal, there is a way to fix it. Sorry Lee! Not true, John. I have been a welder all my life, and have run into cast iron, stainless steel, most of the time in exhaust systems that the metal was burned up to the point that there was no possible way to weld it. Exhaust manifolds are the worst, and you cannot tell by lookin if they will weld or not, so you go through all the steps and it just burns away. Seen it too many times!
