Might be luck of the draw but have a $300 Rem model 700 with synthetic stock I shoot inch groups with reloads at 100 yards works fine for all the big game I have killed everything from bison to antelope.

Before you buy I would suggest you go to a gun shop and work the action on a Tikka. Smoothest action I have ever felt. I have the T3 Lite in .223 and it was a tack driver out of the box. If I was in the market for a 30.06 it would be a Tikka.

Thanks guys. Lots of information. Personally I'm a Chevy/Olds guy. After 40 years at GM.

The thing is I have my dad's old 740 Woods master in the safe. Not wanting to use it out in the field.

I think dad bought that in 1955. That was his go-to deer rifle. He dropped a lot of them. Some even on the run at 300 yards.

I am happy with my Vanguard. Sub MOA accuracy, a good trigger, and a smooth action. I have heard good things about Tikka and Browning too and Bergara has been making a name for themselves.

That’s my vote also. I picked one up at a Pawn Shop 3 years ago. It’s wood stock made in about 1988. Shoots like a dream. Payed $225!!

Tikka I won’t buy a cheaper rifle again. My 30-06 literally puts the through the same home at 100 yards

If the Savage is still made like it used to be, I don't see how you can go wrong. I've had one for about 40 years and it's as reliable as ever.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

The action is smooth and the rifle is light, plus it’s cheap. [Linked Image]

tikka are super nice rifles, haven't gotten one yet. I have had a remington 700 in 30-06, gotten whale and moose with it. Gave it to my brother when i acquired a 303 british. If you have guns stores near you would be best to hold the rifles and compare and see which best suits you. I leave in the bush so I am not able to check out the rifles before buying. I usually look at lots of youtube videos and comment on forums.

Seeing that you are from Michigan, guessing most of your hunting is woods. Find you a good 760/7600, add some good glass to it. You will be MOA of buck for a long way. Take time to make or find a load it likes and you will be surprised how well most will shoot.

Try looking at the ruger number one in 30-06, super accurate, above the $1,000 range though. My dad has one in the shorter barrel, it has gotten many whales and other animals. Just need the one shot

Deadliest most accurate rifle I ever owned.
Savage 110 30-06.

Puts all the bullets in the same hole at 100 yds.Even with the cheap tasco scope.
Also, best hair trigger on any rifle I have ever fired.
