I just bought some kits for #4 Victor DLS and have a question. Is the crimp really strong enough to hold them in place? Does anyone add a tack of weld?

What method of bending the tabs over do you use? I just don't want the pan to move once I get everything adjusted.

thanks.

I held trap with bracket in vise ( by bracket ) and used a chisel to start pounding down sides of brackets until I could finish crimping with vise.I tacked mine also but probably not necessary and also base plated and center swiveled. Then I bought some cdr’s and mb 750s and the 4 dls’s hang in the shed.I know I’m just not right!!!

There is a tiny punch tab on the bottom that you push up with a small punch. It pushes the tab up inside the hump of the trap where the original pan was attached so it can’t slide. Look at the bottom of the bracket after you crimp it on and you’ll see it. It probably wouldn’t slide anyhow. They are tough little brackets.

I used a punch also the metal is tough if you mold it on it’s not going anywhere soon.

I use channel locks to start them and then hammer them down in the vice. I don't weld mine. I never knew what the tab was for, but never had one move once it was set. I have removed a few and it is a job.

Thanks guys. I saw the tab and knew it was for locating the bracket but wondered if just bending the arms over was going to be enough without a tack to hold it. I'll crimp them on and then tack them if I ever add baseplates. I have a bunch of MB750s in the garage but PA limits us to 6.5" jaw spread so I had to buy some more traps.
