After watching the weekly discovery show on mountain men and then seeing all of the high ratings they receive, I think there would be more of a market to take/ charge people to go out on your trap line and just drive with you while you check your traps. Charge $1200 a week? Cheap ?. Minus lodging, meals $300 a week?? Could give you a profit of $900 a week for having someone to tag along with you. More if you charge more for a weekly rate.

With the price of fur being down. The tanned fur market being flooded . Outdoorsman's/ hunter's interest in trapping increasing this may be a way for a trapper to make some extra income. I really think there would be a market for this.

Most of all it would give non and or up and coming trappers an opportunity to see the importance of trapping. The real picture. Not like PETA and other non trapping advocates portray how cruel it is

Don't be negative Nellie about this idea, Just think about it.

Some do it here.
I wouldnt want any part of babysitting a bunch of greenhorns in the bush. Not for any amount of money.
I go out on the line for the solitude and to put in a days work.
I did enjoy doing winter beaver runs with a partner back in the day.
I dont mind having a couple women at the camp to do the camp chores while I'm out on the land all day.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

I'm shocked and appalled how sexiest you must be Baco. I thought Canadians were more woke than us Neanderthals down here in the states. Figured you keep younger men around for the camp chores and if women were there they would be in charge of running the line.

Shows what I get for making across the board assumptions.

Andrews,
Where you live that is a distinct possibility. There are lots of guys that don’t have fisher and marten that always wanted to be on a trapline for them. I know a guy that’s entertaining weekend ride alongs for father and sons to introduce them to equipment, animals and fur handling.

Talk to your insurance agent to seen if current liability coverage is sufficient..

I think it would be a good idea! But, check on insurance and licenses, and taxes.

Ive been doing it for years. Gator Foot is right though check on insurance because you have to have it. We run a fishing lodge as well, so our insurance covers everything. Also check your regs. The Yukon is the only place in Canada, where clients/guests can actually set traps, or have a hands on experience. Our clients actually get a trapping license. If you go with the outfit in BC in the links you posted, it is a 'ride along trip' only. They have no provision in their laws that allow non resident aliens to actually set traps themselves.

Lots of trappers from this site have trapped with us over the years. https://grizzlycreeklodge.com/trapline-adventures/

There's a few guys who do it, mainly for wolves. I've been asked to by one of the outfitters I work for. I haven't done it though, I get plenty of babysitting in guiding hunters. I know like Idaho and Montana you have to take the wolf trapping course (and now the regular trapping course) and buy a license and tag then they can dispatch animals in traps but a lot of states they have to have their nametag on the trap, so if you are setting for canines you probably want them booked out far enough in advance you know and add their tags to the trap (the cheap write on tags work good for this) when you set anything that they might be there to check.

I would’t want two at one camp. I’d keep one at each camp so they didn’t fight and I could give each one my undivided attention😀

one of the biggest determiner of success is the individual. If your an upbeat guy who knows how to communicate with others, quick with a joke or tall tale your chance of success is much higher.

I have often thought and my Wife agrees that there are many ordinary seemingly mundane jobs that some do that others would love to say they went along with for the experience.

In Wyoming you would be required to have an outfitters license with all the trimmings that go along with it. Many hoops to jump through. Plus the client would have to have their own N.R. Trapping license if their state has reciprocity to handle the gear their own trap tags. If not it’s just a ride along still have to have a healthy insurance
Policy. Regulatory Agency of one kind or another has just about squashed small time enterprises.
