I was a nervous wreck taking a chainsaw to that logwork but I ran out of excuses not to. The walls stood. I used a Haddon Lumbermaker and a 2x as a guide. I splined the opening with 2x3 angle iron. It fit perfectly into the kerfs. Windows are next.

Lol, I've never heard it put that way but you're right. Boxers, not briefs.

I'll post pics, Sharon. I had hinges made by Historic Housefitters and bought an antique thumb latch off eBay. The 150 year old latch cost less than a restoration piece.

Sounds perfect , Posco. Looking forward to seeing them, and what you seal that nice woodwork with. Really like doors with that design .

Naw, Red....all good ! I always have loved custom doors like this , the Dutch types too , that open in halves. Black iron bling , stained nice, no paint.

When I was in charge of horse stables , updating stall and inside design was my favorite. I always chose doors like this , on sliders , whether attached on top or bottom.

Custom woodworking is the best.

Looks nice !!!!!!!! That's a novel way to support the door. I am guessing that will allow you to drop it lower if you need to increase the relief over the head jamb ? But where is the floor relative to the bottom of the door ?? Looks like there may be a conflict if it opens in. ???

A lot of good observations. I'll answer them when I get to my laptop. Phone sucks.

Some times one just has to take the leap. Early on in moving here where I taught, I worked many days and hours on a friends dairy farm where then they milked 60 cows. They purchased a new side spreading manure spreader and brought it home and stated the cover lifts from the wrong side, so into the workshop, torch and tools totally cut the cover off switched it around, moved the hydraulics, welded everything up and were good to go. All that before the first load or poop! Now my friend and son milk a few more than 900 cows and manure is handled in much differently.

Little milestones. Got my door latch installed today. 18th century technology but it fits the look I was going after. Sorry about the crappy pics but I still haven't cut the window openings so it's a bit dark in there.
