I'm headed to trap tomorrow. We typically get a few 5.6-6' rattlers in south Texas. PM me if interested although to be honest, we have a buyer that takes everyone we get. Width runs 6 to 7."

On the show, Lone Star Law that my wife and I watch quite often, the wardens say rattlesnakes are protected in TX.

Speaking of the wardens on that show, they seem to cut offenders a lot of slack when writing up tickets. Is that true, or just for the show? In MN they would throw the book at you when it comes to violations for most wardens.

Rattlesnakes are regulated, not protected in Texas.

Not according to some of the TX game wardens. I remember one show where they got a tip that one guy had several dozen rattlesnakes in his possession. They went to check it out and found that he had a permit to have the snakes for research purposes. Otherwise, they said it's illegal to take or possess rattlesnakes because they are a protected species.

Diamond back rattle snakes are non game animals in Texas, they are not regulated, nor protected by the state, you can catch and kill all you want!!! Timber rattlers on the other hand are endangered, and protected. Have y'all not ever heard of the Sweetwater rattle snake round up?? And there are many other ones, Google it.

I can't recall the date but they have a rattlesnake round-up in Sweetwater texas every year. They have a couple 30' diameter pens that hold them all. Balloons laying around on the floor and every few minutes a snake will strike one and the whole place sounds off with rattles. Its quite the experience.

You could probably buy as many as you want there. Last time I went was 1999. I think the going rate was around $8/lb.

I believe Bullet Box of Robert Lee Texas used to post on rattle snake round ups. I believe he has an abundance on his ranch.

Morris Run in Pa has one every year. The hair sure goes up on the back of the neck when they all rattle! The snakes are milked for the venom and released.

You are right. They did mention it was Timber rattlers that were protected now that you mention that. I was wrong in thinking it was all rattlers.

I remember back when PA had huge snake round ups and they didn’t turn them loose.

When the politicians started making the hunters turn the snakes back. There were threats of turning them loose on the capital steps. Don’t remember if that ever became a reality.

I was just looking at the Texas regulations for rattlesnakes tonight. In a few weeks the family and I are heading to my in-laws near McAllen. Every time we go I tempt myself with Texas opportunities, the things that don't exist in Nebraska: rattlesnake, alligator, javalina... However, my in-laws don't know a thing about hunting or trapping in the area and it's difficult to pick something up along the way even though we're camping.

Snake hunting fun, and really makes you pay attention where you are stepping!
