I happen to be fortunate enough to live on a chain of lakes connected to many rivers and streams and get many spring travelers passing by my place which sits only 20 feet from the lake shore. This year has shown an exceptional amount of travel and of the 36 beaver I have trapped this spring, 29 of them have come within 30 or 40 feet from my house in just 3 sets. I am going to keep them operating until the end of season which is May 15th. I have a pretty good market for carcass beaver and my trapping requires no travel so it turns a profit for me. Some of them have come from my float, some from a 330 set between a tree in the water and a piece of bog that has floated in to shore, and some have come from a MB 750 set on a long chain with no entanglement in shallow water. I have a pic of one just entering my float, the tree set empty, and the 750 set with a nice catch.

This has been great entertainment for me this spring when I am not crappie fishing. The extra money will go towards garage sales no doubt. I hope some of you will find this entertaining....I know I have.

The fact that we have had a lot of cold weather and North winds has contributed greatly to the catch rate since I live on the North side of the lake and the wind carries the scent over the water. At 5 this morning when it was still pretty dark I looked out the window and saw the ripples in the water from a 40 pounder that had JUST gotten caught in the 330 by the tree. Good way to start the day.

I have lived in this same house for 49 years and have killed a lot of beaver in front of it.

Thats the way to trap MnMan. I am not that lucky most of my trapping is a 5 min drive with the atv to 15 minute drive with the pickup.

I did do a couple of jobs that required a lot of travel. Two beaver came from 2 miles away and 3 came from 1 mile away and another 2 came from 4 miles away. I used my small boat with a 15 horse for the 1 mile job and my pickup for the others so I did not use much gas. Much cheaper to stay home but don't get the premium for problem beaver removal. I have a job to look at this week that is a whopping 8 1/2 miles away. Not sure what that will look like.

This just now happened at 11:00AM. I just now looked out the window at my float and saw it was floating funny and there was a beaver in the trap floating right next to it. It had to of happened in the last half hour....crazy! That now makes #37 and #30 from the home front. Pic is taken through my window.

Wow. I really like that beaver float! Long. I think that makes the difference being long. Some time share in-depth plans on how you made it. I wonder if a guy had a huge pontoon boat and used 50 of those Floats on big rivers how it would work ? Marty

I think the construction must be in the archives or on another thread somewhere. I copied the design that 330 Tapper shared and added some side rails and put some bait sticks close to the trap in the middle and scented them also. I also installed some screening on the bottom to prevent them from coming up behind the trap It is the only one I own. If I could afford some 2X4's I would make another one.
