Look like shotgun target water snakes!

There’s only two types of snakes - rattlesnakes and copperheads. If it don’t rattle, it’s a copperhead. Lol.

How do you tell a basset from a beagle? Body shape, size, conformation. Same with snakes.

Common water has abrupt color change and square blocks of color

Coppers have more gradual shift of color and HOURGLASS blocks of color

Honestly, my only fear with snakes is the unknown exotic some fool snuck in and let get loose.

A couple years ago a fer-de-lance was seen and photographed wandering around Macon, GA.

Turtledale: There are copperheads in SE New York, especially on the ridges along the Delaware River. Back in the 60,s we caught both rattlesnakes and copperheads from Port Jervis all the way up to Hancock. Sold them in the zoo trade. Lots of slate quarries became snake dens.

Copperheads have those "dumbbell" copper colors. Water snakes-mostly bands

.. them little ole copperheads are sissies.. but are able to inconvenience you enough to not go barefoot in the spring

If you seen me in the that situation I promise you the snake wouldn't be the you'd be calling the sissy. And I'm man enough to admit . Lol

... the small ones can’t get through leather... that’s a tip to getting the ladies all excited down here in east Texas lol

The stuff running down my leg would soak right through leather. And that would probably be enough to calm the east TX woman even when it comes to a real Flinthills cowboy. Lol

... copperheads are a weak venom snake ... if you get bit down around the foot or ankle ( which is likely) just soak it in a bucket of kerosene and drink a lot of beer (or water if you’re a serious southern baptist) ... it’ll swell up good but won’t be fatal or require surgery for the most part .. I had a friend of mines heart stop from the antivenom they gave at the hospital... they were able to revive though

Note the shape of the head. Venomous snakes here have the classic triangular head.

Copperheads are one of the prettiest snakes. I'm sure the banded water snake came about to mimic the copperhead.

Water snakes tend to also be more aggressive. At least in my dealings with both. A water snake will swim across a swollen river and climb a cliff just to bite you because you breathed wrong.

Also shape of the head, Copperheads have a wedge shaped head like rattlers do.

Look at the pupilssometimes head can be borderline in judging But the pupils are never wrong Round safe , Slits poisonous in those 2. But I think the coral snake has round pupils.

If you are ever bitten by a snake and you say to yourself "Was that a poisonous snake?"... it wasn't.
You know what kind of snake it is immediately.
My grandfather was bitten twice by copperheads and twice by rattlesnakes and told me it was like 100 beestings in the same place at the same time.

They make great hat bands.

Years back but not long time I used go fishing under railroad bridge out back roads , supposed Been lot rattkesnake around, lot big water snakes, some could been in water edges bridge
