If every kid had to grow a garden and put up a cord of firewood before graduating high school our country would be in a much better place right now!

Can tell you put in some hard work. The payoff is worth it though!

Ol dad

a cord split with an ax and 2 split with a power splitter

yes kids need to learn to work.

my son was splitting with the log splitter at about 11 he hates splitting but still splits a couple cord a year for me any way

nice looking garden , I think we are finally past the last freeze 2 nights ago, I plan to till and plant this weekend if the rain holds off long enough

Way, way ahead of us planting wise, plus black, loam, stone free soil!!! Makes me jealous just to look at it. Ours is glacial till, red clay, with slopes going many ways in one field and full of stones. We tile most of the soil if there is enough pitch and a place to pump to. The interesting thing here is the dairy farmers needing land for forage and manure for nutrient management concerns are paying 6-12K per acre for land that averages 160 bu. corn instead of what producers in your area average.

I wish I had some of that dirt on my place. On the other hand, I harvested enough rocks out of my garden this year to build a fireplace and a retaining wall for the house.

I eat or store what I can, I usually grow extra to try to always have enough, then I give extra to my customers or neighbors.

Thanks 😊, I say it's my therapy.
Butterflies and birds are fun to watch in garden too
A lot of work this year cause I narrowed each bed a few inches, gaining 2 beds, I dig a trench to walk in

I find gravel sized stones, I think my yard had clay fill hauled in to fill wet ground many years ago, then they put a foot or more good black dirt on top of clay.
Old guy years ago said they used to hunt ducks there
I used to haul black dirt to Wyoming rancher I trapped for, and brought coal shale home for trapping
