I hope you don't get to tired carrying that one out. Well, I had to carry it about 75 feet to my one garage to put it under the fan and then about another 20 feet to the other garage to the freezer once the fur was dried. It was tough but I managed to survive.

I am jealous of your Beaver line MnMan. Would you mind elaborating on the carcass market (private message?), it is something I have never been able to establish here.

MnMan do you use any lure on you floats or is it just baited with fresh poplar. Yes, I use both castor and popple bud oil.

Just caught #38 in the MB 750 on a long chain. That now makes #31 on the home front. The parade continues.

Wow. I really like that beaver float! Long. I think that makes the difference being long. Some time share in-depth plans on how you made it. I wonder if a guy had a huge pontoon boat and used 50 of those Floats on big rivers how it would work ? Marty I think the construction must be in the archives or on another thread somewhere. I copied the design that 330 Tapper shared and added some side rails and put some bait sticks close to the trap in the middle and scented them also. I also installed some screening on the bottom to prevent them from coming up behind the trap It is the only one I own. If I could afford some 2X4's I would make another one. Well at today's prices you will only need another 1/2 dozen beavers to be able to buy a couple 2x4's. Zim

Just caught #40 this morning making 32 from my shoreline This one was long chained in an MB 750. I caught one on a job across the lake yesterday where it mowed down an ash tree of all things. Still have those traps to check this morning after my coffee.

You got at least 8 lbs of Castor.....CHA-CHING !! I would if they averaged bigger and if I were not selling them on the carcass complete with castor. This late in the season they no longer carry the amounts of castor that they do right after ice out either.

I happen to be fortunate enough to live on a chain of lakes connected to many rivers and streams and get many spring travelers passing by my place which sits only 20 feet from the lake shore. This year has shown an exceptional amount of travel and of the 36 beaver I have trapped this spring, 29 of them have come within 30 or 40 feet from my house in just 3 sets. I am going to keep them operating until the end of season which is May 15th. I have a pretty good market for carcass beaver and my trapping requires no travel so it turns a profit for me. Some of them have come from my float, some from a 330 set between a tree in the water and a piece of bog that has floated in to shore, and some have come from a MB 750 set on a long chain with no entanglement in shallow water. I have a pic of one just entering my float, the tree set empty, and the 750 set with a nice catch. This has been great entertainment for me this spring when I am not crappie fishing. The extra money will go towards garage sales no doubt. I hope some of you will find this entertaining....I know I have. Absolutely great, bet they are most all two year olds around 25-30# or thereabouts. FYI, I made one that is basically a swim thru float with 330/280 on both ends. Worked great, never did catch two beaver at one check but had a beaver and rat, plus beaver at different ends on different trips. Because this float was really big I only used it where I could drive close to the pond(was never used for traveling beaver) but think it would work on lakes that have resident beaver colonies. I developed it for a damage control job(plugging road culvert) where the available water was immediately too deep and loon poop bottom. There was a very narrow creek channel that was over five feet deep but this double ended float fit it perfect. Had to place it with my little 8 foot boat. It could very easily be converted to a baited float and used similar to the V type float. IMO, some sort of sides be it plywood or sticks like above are essential when using floats in still water situations like lakes or ponds. Have had too many beaver climb over the sides, chew off my bait stick and leave never setting of the trap. When there is free flowing current this is not a problem.

what does a carcuss beaver fetch with the castor glands attach?..at least 10.00 I would hope I have been averaging around $15.00 head count earlier in the season and a little less now to different buyers. Mostly two year olds.

Way to keep Trapstickman busy and out of trouble! Have you noticed any cutting? Our water down here freezes some years, and stays open other years, but your about finished for fur by the end of Feb. Season runs through end of Mar, and on water that you get frequent travelers, They get cut to ribbons shortly after ice out.....if there is any. One year, I had a pair of yearlings set up housekeeping on a little creek, and flooded a field crossing. Farmer friend wanted them gone! Beaver weren't worth catching, especially that early. So I snared the one, first night, shoved him in a cage and hauled him about fifeteen miles down the river and kicked him out. Caught the female the next day, and hauled her the same place. Told the farmer his beaver were gone, about five days later, he said you didn't get them all. I said it was just a pair! I went and looked, they had the dam back up. This time I set conis, and caught them both a day later. Same male, missing parts of his tail, cuts on his back, wearing a fresh snare mark, and had picked up a new lady friend coming back home. Dang things are almost homing pigeons!
