What's the sturdiest best live trap for coons? They keep coming up on my deck every night and are destroying plants. There's feces all over the place.
My old Havahart doesn't cut it anymore. The door gets bent and they've escaped 3 nights in a row. I may just have to get out the dp's.

The new Pro have A Junks are heavier. But I use several Advanced traps , the older ones built by Kirk D.

Dogwoods are good, a catch pole is needed for transfer to transfer cage though.

I have used Tomahawk live traps for over 40 years. They hold up to hard use. Made in USA.

Buy a single door Comstock Raccoon size trap, and be done with it. It might cost you a little more money, but will hold up and you'll never lose another coon in one. You can probably get by with a 9" X 11" X 30" for right about 100.00 .

Williams cage traps were the best but I do not know if they are still made. I had bears stand on these traps and they did not bend or break. I know you need a trap right now but if you go to trappers conventions in the future keep an eye out for used Williams traps in the tailgater section. Recent years a lot of older trappers are selling off their stuff.

Comstock or koones are what we use in our business. Sorry, I don't have any in stock.

Who laments about the Williams single door not being available. Great built trap! I too have switched to comstock. I see Eric beat me to it! I paid $25 a cage at the NYS convention. I should of filled the truck!

I'd go with Williams. I have been using the same ones since about 1993. I catch 20-30 every year in them and they are still holding up well.

KOONS,Williams, aaahc, Comstock, tomahawk. Probably missing a few but if you go on the ADC forum you'll see more.

Just don't get them from the box stores, though I have seen some duke cages lately at box stores

Honestly, I've caught a lot of coons in the Duke HD cage traps in 12x12x30" and have never had a coon escape them. I don't think they are the best available but for they are certainly the best buy. The key to a good long lasting coon trap is rod doors, the coons work the doors hard to get try to get out but they don't tear up the back corners of the cage wire. Remember they will tear up anything they can reach through the doors too so be careful setting them on a surface you don't want torn up or near things they can pull in the cage with them. Set them in a hay loft, they'll have 2-3 bales in there with them, lol.

... you can see there the boars were tearing up the bark on that tree trying to get at this hot sow coon, you know they put the trap to the test.
