As others have said, that's a no go. The north side is always fubar because you have 75, 400, and 85 plus Roswell Rd, Peachtree Industrial, Buford Hwy and Cobb Parkway all dumping onto it. The entire northside of Atlanta and points north has the highest density of subdivision suburbs in the southeast.

South of I20 is the better half but not by much. The northwest corner from 75 to 20 is always a mess with construction and traffic to 20. Northeast 85 to 20 is Dekalb County and again traffic to 20.

The only smooth flowing section is 675 but it dumps out onto 75 and that creates a backup south to McDonough.

You could try hwy 84 west at Valdosta GA. take it to Dothan AL and get on 231 N. 231 goes to Montgomery AL Take 80/82 west where you pick up I65. Take I 65 north to Birmingham AL get on I20 west a short distance and get hwy 78 west to Memphis. I240 west at Memphis to I55 north. ( the I 55 bridge will be a slow down as the I40 bridge is closed) Cross the river and go about 20 miles to hwy 63 north. Take 63 north into MO and get on hwy 60 west. 60 west takes you into Springfield Mo. Go north a few miles on Hwy 65 and then West a couple more on I40. Take hwy 13 north to Clinton MO and take hwy 7 to Harrisonville. At Harrisonville get I49 north. (old hwy 71) I49 turns in to I29 north in KC and goes to Council Bluffs/ Omaha.

You will lose a couple hours driving time but its a nice drive. If you want to avoid KC at Harrisonville take route 2 west. It turns into ks route 68. Follow route 68 to the roundabout just north of Lyndon KS and take Hwy 75 north. Just north of Auborn NE you can take Hwy 2 west to Lincoln. Miss KC and Omaha both.

Those are all good routes I have used many times. Speed limits on the interstates today make interstate much faster. Those two lanes are all old truck routes. Still usefull depending on what your doing.

I65 from Birmingham to Nashville, then I24 to I57 to I64 to I70 to Kansas City is the way your GPS will send you. The hwy 78 to 63 to 60 to 13 to 7 to I49 route is a good 100 miles shorter and about the same driving time.

I live in Tennessee and hunt a property in southern Illinois and it's 30 mins faster going thru Nashville then north, but if you hit Nashville an hour either side of rush hour you'll add a extra hour or two to your trip. Best advice I have is try to hit Nashville before 7 in the morning and it's usually a cruise right thru
